one thing you fail to mention is shifting and footwork for torque. To me the shifting to generate torque is what this movement is about. Without the proper foundation of legs and footwork the arm movements have no power. When you can shift at your own centerline while moving forward or backward you can get off line and generate torque for power. That to me is what the Chum Kiu form is all about, the footwork and rotation of the torso about the centeine to generate power and getting offline to avoid attacking power. "rolling with the punches" think of the drum technique popularized by the movie the karate kid. That drum is a principle beyond a Childs rattle toy or instrument. It is all about centerline and torque to make power for both offense and defense at the same time.

OMG, I love this. Thank you Adam Chan! So well said. 🙏🏼 I'm sending this link to many people. As a 5'7" 140Lb female, with 20 yrs. Martial Arts training - I keep telling people this!!! (And that males DO have a much better chance against females.) I tell them the "best technique" is Situational Awareness, and immediately leaving if you spot trouble. Yet many people want to believe, magically, that "size doesn't matter".

That claim cannot be made accurately unless it can be proven - In other words, we need to hear it straight from Bruce Lee himself, that he did NOT teach everything he knows about martial arts. Is there any such video? NO - of course not.

Centuries ago, fighting styles were very localized and suited to local environments. Why? Because modes of transportation were very slow. Today, people can travel different parts of the world within hours. Martial arts today is evolving with many sticking to traditional forms while others are mixing it up using and blending all different forms using only what suits them best then calling and naming it their own.

I like the practical sui nim Tao explanations you do, cos alot of people like me trying to understand the Eastern way, we practice the form even if its got structure, but we don't know what each movement is for, like the bong sau, I though that was a palm strike, but no its actually a elbow lift 😮 to me understanding this helps. Co now I know how slow some parts of the form should be done and what she be done reasonably quick too.

Adam if there were two very good wing chun practioners, that weren't friends, how would they fight, would they just get in a sticky hand loop, forever, or would they intercepting fist each other at the start. Or just stand off in a lap sau stance 🤔

I would say weapons came first. We were likely using tools, clubs, etc before we were fully humans and primarily used for hunting. And evolutionary it makes sense, you want to down your competition with the least amount of damage to you(no antibiotics means a cut from a dirty weapon means infection and death) if any empty handed styles were first it was probably wrestling. And teach someone to punch or swing a stick. The stick will come naturally with low risk of self injury while even a good punch can break your own hand. If we evolved to strike with our bare limbs why does it cause so much self damage, theory of evolution should say that in modern times we have stronger bones and maybe different hand bone setups/claws due to 300,000 years of hand to hand combat

Good Stuff... In Yoga science, the Yogis or Rishis created the Dieties, as ways to merge with the Dao or Brahman, the Deity is a tools to use to go further along the path, same with prayer I would assume, at least from the old days prayer I think is synonymous with "meditation" or Sadhana (Spiritual Practices, there are many), but nowadays prayer is more like an asking of God to help someone with things, like an arrangement or contract If you do this for me I promise to be like this or act like this from now on lol, this is useless and means nothing totally egoic and separate from nature and Dao... keep on sharing, very informative and useful information and sharing:)

Thank you so much for your answer! It's hard to express my thoughts in youtube comments format :-) Talking about Christianity I ment Orthodox Christianity, and the thing is that, gentlemen that you have mentioned (St. John, Teresa and etc.) were spreading so called pantheistic ideas that are closer to the hinduism, but were not the mainstream of christian practice. Nevertheless I agree with most things that you have said, but what worries me is that there are a lot of "low-quality" mystics especially ourdays, that eventually just help people grow their ego and lose sobriety or even go insane. Not many people are capable of not crossing this thin line 🤷♂ Hope to have a cup of tea with you guys one day 🙂🙏

Just read this new book titled Myths and blind spots in the fighting arts’ world. /After the Bible, it’s the next gοοd bοοk for you! He exposes and destroys chi sao and centerline in one of his chapters. Mind boggling book and I feel commenting on it is just doing it it injustice.

Awesome content! I love your channel and truly believe in your skills. Have you ever considered wearing no cushion shoes like barefoot shoes. I think the transmisson of force from the ground upwards is just way better and there is no loss of force from the shoe‘s cushion. Better side stability and so on… Kind regards
