I have one in a 85' Ford 6.9 , ATS Turbo with a C6. I find that the C6 is in top gear at about 30 and then I will use the OD only if I am getting on a road cruising 55+. I run 4.10's and they are great around town but the OD turns it to a 3.22 on the highway. It would be nicer in a manual I think but really mandatory on 4.10's either way.

Not very sure but It might be that 4h is higher than 5L so there is some practicality maybe skip that or go 4L to 5L then go up to 4H back to 5H maybe I might be wrong
@michaelbarnhill26852 ай бұрын
4th over turns at a slightly higher rpm than 5th. I believe it is 100rpm difference. So 4th over tows better than 5th, but just barely. I sold the GVendors, and went to a larger injector(+200s)/turbo setup(Fenley drop-in hx35).... Truck towed and drove drastically better. Could tow in 5th gear, uphill, at 65mph, and not needing to downshift.

GearVendors has no business behind a diesel truck that is used as a daily driver. They can say what they want, I replaced my unit multiple times and it simply couldn't hold up. GV's belongs behind weekend toys, not daily drivers. Eventually sold the entire setup for like $1,000. As far as 5spd , 6spd or auto.. That answer really depends on your goal, and what you are starting with. I eventually converted my 5spd to a built auto. Love not having to push a clutch pedal anymore.

You, as the driver, are happiest below 2,000rpm...because the engine and trans is loud as hell once you get over 2,000rpm. So just to clarify, you can't split 2nd with the gear vendors becuase you don't have enough driveshaft speed? I have a 93 W350 with the 360 5 speed but I'm thinking of going with an NV4500 and this has my interest as well. The only issue I have is the drop between 2nd and 3rd can be a bit annoying when you have 10k lbs behind you. I guess realistically I could just swap out to 4.88s and then use this to split the higher gears and drop down to a 3.80 more less in 5th with the over if I'm making sense of this correctly.
@michaelbarnhill26853 жыл бұрын
@@WilliamStewart1 your getrag and nv4500, have similar gear ratios. 2-3rd shift, towing 10,000lbs, shouldn't leave any kind of after thoughts. Up your power a little. Even towing my 10,000lb camper up West Virginia mountains, 2-3rd shift is a non-issue. My truck is roughly 100hp over stock.

Nice video. How has the Gear Vendors held up? Do you haul any weight with it regularly? I have the same truck with the 6-speed, 3.55’s, and the same tires. Plenty of legs as is, but the split between gears is too much for hauling loads since I replaced the 16’s with the 17’s. Looking for a splitter, and it seems the GV is about the only solution without adapting a full-size truck transmission.

@michaelbarnhill26854 жыл бұрын
That is correct. GearVendors oil pump is driven off the driveshaft speed. It needs 25mph speed, in order to shift firmly without unnecessary slippage. So...gearVendors controller monitors your wheel speed, and wont allow a shift under 25mph, or...when slowing doen..it automatically disengages the unit at 25. I say 25mph..it may be 20mph. Not sure. Concept I'd the same
@j.mitch24754 жыл бұрын
Can you please make a video of how the shifting of the unit works? Is it a button?
@michaelbarnhill26854 жыл бұрын
It's just a toggle button, mounted by the shifter ball. So you thumb flip it, while the clutch is in. It's a small toggle switch, with a clean mount that clamps onto the shifter pole. Small and clean enough, someone riding passanger wouldnt notice you switching it on/off

I will most likely be selling this GV unit here pretty soon. Im currently putting the truck back to stock, form as my 3.55 gears and how I use my truck, makes the GV seldom used anymore. I need to get one of those big time I have a 95 Dodge ram 3500 with the nv 4500 5 speed and i’m literally tacked out matted to the floor right up against the governor at about 78 flat out 52 miles an hour is about max cruse speed just so I’m not ringing it out. I would be happier than a pig in shit if I could cruise down the road at 65 or 70 comfortably. The only good thing about the gearing I have now is I can pull lots of weight and still get killer fuel mileage. which I’m sure that will change once I start loading the ol 12 valve with a taller gear. but that’s cool at least I’ll still have that option to use over drive or not 🤪👍

Your situation, you will absolutely see a real world increase in fuel mileage. 1750-1800rpm is the sweet spot to hit mid 22-24mpgs on the one highway. You will literally have the best of both worlds. 4.10 axle ratio, with nv4500 AWD gear vendors. You cant ask for a better setup. You will.cruise at 70-80, as of you had 3.55 gears. But down low, you will have the torque monster of 4.10z
