I've covered this tune hundreds of times. The bass part is a challenge. I usually simplify it these days. Probably why Peal Jam revised it too. Between the timing and complexity, not n easy cover. Definitely one of the top 25 songs to come out of the period.

I used to sing this song walking to school in 3rd grade after Michelle McAdams moved away during the summer vacation. It's funny almost 60 years later I still think about her and my first kiss. We watched Mary Poppins in the theater and we held hands through the whole movie.

El tema fue escrito por Wayne Cochrane en 1961, basado en un hecho real. No tuvo mucho éxito, hasta que lo grabó J.Frank Wilson en 1964, con gran éxito.

His murder had nothing to do with a money dispute, it had to do with his step daughter. Guys name was David Matthew Merrill, know what your talking about before you praise a man.

The idea for this particular guitar arrangement came from a Foo Fighter's song. I added the car burn-out intro which might be a tad too much. Our idea was to veer away from the original 45 arrangement by Wayne Cochran (copied by J. Frank and the band in 1964). Rudy wanted to do the original arrangement but I talked him out of it.

I heard the 1964 version on XM Radio today and it got me thinking about the backup singer - the woman who mirrors J. Frank's voice. It is very unique and really contributes to the song. Does anyone know who she is and did she go on to record additional songs?

There were 5 young ladies in the recording studio singing the descant part along with J Frank. Snake told me they were studio singers, not a regular part of the Cavaliers. The descant part is (sadly) missing from this version.

Wow. This must have been awesome. I guess Rudy Mata is J Frank Wilson since if he is the main Volcalist of this song, this must have been him back in 64'. :D What a great recording. RIP Rudy Mata.

What a great video too !! They all look like really good friends !!! They sort of remind me of the Mavericks !! I love the face of the lead singer .. The bearded guy in the black Stetson .. I have to go to Texas now .. Pay my respects to them !! This song means a lot to me .. It was my children's lullaby . My eldest daughter's wedding song .. And it was my husband and myself's special song . We used to snog to it and see who came up for air first !!! Lol happy days .. Thanks for the post xxxxx

I've played with the Cavaliers (guitarist) several times here in San Angelo TX over the years James Thomas was the singer (not with the original band) I also know Snake (Roland) Atkinson who has a transmission business here and original cavalier vocalist Alton Baird (now Alton Baird & the Moonlighters).WClark007 is correct about Sid Holmes as he formed the 'original band' as guitarist so this is true that this would be the original band (pre J Frank Wilson RIP) Love the song.
