Many people only get minimum wage and no tips for the work they do. I sometimes wonder why so many waiter/waitresses complain about people and tipping. Do they also get paid minimum wage?

No. Most resturaunts only pay like $3 an hour to waitresses.

@@nicolemadden3178this depends on the state you live in & if they are going based on Federal minimum wage which is $2.75. Tips are then used to make up the remainder of the hourly wage. I believe mid west states pay federal minimum wage.

they get paid around $2.60 which just covers taxes so they’re basically working for free on the restaurants end and only making what they get tipped

Ive only served in california and was making minimum wage plus about $100-150 a shift in tips. So my tips were what i took to the bank and my checks which was maybe $1k a month back then was my $ to take my kids out with on my days off plus my singles wed take to yhe arcade a couple times a week. I had a friend out of state that made abou $2.20 an hour so her income eas basically just tips.

In my opinion waiters and waitresses don’t make enough. They only get $2.18 an hour so they rely solely on tips, and if someone is providing you with a service (fetching your drinks, bringing you food, or you just running them to death for sauce extra napkins or whatever) they deserve at least 20% of the check if not more!

i think she works for a darden restaurant and they absolutely force you to declare your cash. you cant get clock out without a managers approval if your tips are less than 12% of sales.
