The first modern social networking site (one that had all/most of the features present in those seen today) was Friendster, founded in 2002 - the same year version 43 of the Machine (the version we spend most of the show with) came online.

this turned out to be all true :) the machine has a name its PRISM :)

Watch the show again its not about PRISM but about the next one . Not sure if they already have a working AI but they sure have something close to it. (Call it PRISM 2.0)

If you see the later series, one of the episodes show that PRISM is a "decoy" for the machine.
