Interesting process - thanks for sharing. Looking at the old module in the close up mode there appeared to be a cold solder joint and corrosion slightly to the left and upwards of the 8 pin chip - just an observation.

It depends on the design of the ECU. If the design team used an eeprom then you would be able to clone the information. The only was to know is to open it and look.@@DFWAuto_Hack

You said at around 28 mins that if a module from dealer if available we can get the eeprom data and write it to Salavge ECUs But don’t NEW ECUs come blank And also why and how it would work on other cars because you said we can sell them if we do that ( did you mean sell them blank to people that would be interested?)
@andromedaresearchlabs78266 күн бұрын
A new module may or may not have data programmed into the assembly. If it does then you can read the eeprom and save the data to a file. That file can then be used to virginize a salvage unit. Blank is a relative term. The eeprom may have data which is not a VIN or something else. If you simply erase all data in an ECU eeprom it may work however the way to be sure is to read data from a new unit before it is installed in a vehicle.

Hello, does all this still apply to the chips used today?
@andromedaresearchlabs78262 ай бұрын
The procedure works with any eeprom based module. There are some modules which incorporate the eeprom function onto a custom silicon chip. The procedure does not work for these modules. Unfortunately the only way to determine if an eeprom part is present is to open the module and look. The year the module was manufactured does not matter. Both old and new vehicle modules use eeproms.

Hello. How do you know where are the crash code ? Do they always appear as 0x78 or "X" when set and always as 0x00 when unset ? And why so many byte to store crash data that only appear as 0x78 or "x" ? Aren't they related to the number of airbags or to other information ? Don't they inform about how hard was the impact (in g or m/s² in SI standard) ? I don't see the advantage of having bigger EEPROM to store more data when it stores only a bunch of 0x78s.
@andromedaresearchlabs78264 ай бұрын
You don't know. There are services and software which has determined where the data is stored. Why so many bytes? Ask the folks who wrote the airbag code. They decide what to save and where.

So I bought a few different microchips 93lc66. I couldn't find one that showed my exact numbers as my chip. But I bought about 4 different 93lc66 chips. I even bought one that's 93lc66a even tho the chip doesn't say A at the end, but the scanner shows A at the end. So I grabbed all the different versions I saw. I plan to try the 93lc66 I/P first, and if that doesn't work, the 93lc66a I/P. Have you ever had to replace a chip with a new one, and did it work? My chip shows 93lc66 I/PHCC 0236. But I can't find that exact chip, but the specs seem to be the same as the specs you mentioned in the video. You are the only person who mentioned any specs.
@andromedaresearchlabs78264 ай бұрын
The 93Lc66 will work in the Sequoia immobilizer. The part is forced into 8 bit mode when installed in the circuit assembly. Out of circuit the part is 16 bits. If you program the part in-circuit choose an 8 bit driver.. The 93LC66A part from Microchip is fixed at 8 bits and does not support a 16 bit mode. @@segounlocks5029

I’m seriously considering ordering your automotive kit #2 for our repair shop. However, we have a 2000 Subaru outback with a bad PCM but I noticed there is no EEPROM on the board. Would this EEPROM be integrated with the microcontroller?
@andromedaresearchlabs78266 ай бұрын
It's possible but unlikely. If the vehicle is a 2000 it's unlikely that the eeprom is integrated with the microcontroller. Look closely; it may be an eeprom in a non-SOIC package. Perhaps an MSOP or TSSOP part.
@TroyCarroll5096 ай бұрын
Well, I think everything on board is SOIC. There’s only two chips that resemble an EEPROM and one is located near the microprocessor and the other one is on a different part of the board. The problem is the numbers don’t seem to give me any clues when I do a Google search. The chip near the microprocessor says 5223 across the top line and then 0Z1 across the bottom line. The other chip says 5233 across the top line and 0Z8 across the bottom line. They’re both 8 leg SOICs. It’s very confusing because it’s difficult to find information on these chips. I really do enjoy your videos though. I think this would be a very cost-effective way to repurpose these salvage yard computer modules.

@andromedaresearchlabs78266 ай бұрын
You can as long as you know what you're doing and don't make a mistake. Swapping the eeprom is three soldering operations' removal of the target, removal of salvage unit and cleaning the pads then soldering the source on the salvage assembly. Also if you break a pin or lift a track your path back is gone. In circuit cloning is faster and safer. Attach to source part, read, move the clip and program.
