So I have watched this and read the descriptions on the Digital showers and reading the Mira install instructions have become confused. I have a Gravity fed main system into a balanced pump feeding the existing shower. I assume it is a 'High pressure' system now, but the installation instructions dont mention this type. The water will need to flow for the pump to start. Can someone please confirm which Digital shower I need to get. (Prob going Mira with dual outlets). Thanks so much...
@TomoBishBosh3 ай бұрын
thanks James, one of the things i always see listed is the rate of flow against the pressure of the water, how does this relate to the kW of the shower itself?

cool video, one thing I'd like to know though is what one is just as good as or just as powerful as a mains mixer shower? one that actually matches a good mixer shower, would it be that first one you pointed out, the power shower electric? nothing worse when someone is like, "yeh great shower same as a mains mixer" then it's just worlds apart with not much force coming out like a caravan effort lol.
@neilrobinson81014 ай бұрын
Our shower mixer is always either scalding or too cold with almost no ability to mix. I suspect the issue is caused by the cold supply being mains pressure and the hot supply from a tank. Would a thermostatic mixer solve this problem by regulating the temperature? Or is the problem better solved with a pump on the hot supply? Would I be better off trying to just lower the hot temperature somehow and have the mixer set fully to got, or would this teperature vary from time to time as it's from a tank? (I'm more used to combi systems). Thanks
@plumbworldYT4 ай бұрын
Hi, Thank you for getting in touch. This sounds as if you might benefit from a thermostatic mixer shower, as the fluctuating temperature on a manual mixer shower can be affected by changes in the water pressure, for example, someone flushing the toilet or turning on the kitchen tap. A thermostatic mixer shower, however, will help to provide a safe and constant temperature throughout use. If you are at all unsure, we advise contacting a professional plumber who will be able to advise on your specific circumstances.

Mounting a radiant heater next to a refrigerator is a bit ironic. A reflective barrier on that side of the fridge might be worthwhile. (Perhaps that's what the pin-board is. Hard to tell.)

Hi James. I'm completely lost with these online BTU calculators as I cannot find any that work. None I've found seem to consider EWI or rooms with PIR board on the outside walls and ceilings. Also, 150mm full-filled cavities aren't even considered separate to old 50mm insulated cavities.... they are all bunched up under the same category. I'm looking to fit these myself but I need to buy the right radiators.... help!

Hi, thank you for getting in touch. Please see our online heating calculator here - www.plumbworld.co.uk/heating-calculator. Does a higher power electric shower make more water pressure at the shower head?
@plumbworldYT5 ай бұрын
Hi, thank you for your message. In most cases, a higher kW shower will result in an increased water flow. However, you should ensure your system is compatible with a high kW electric shower first. We advise contacting a professional installer to consult on your specific needs.

Did you miss mains cold feed or did I? I have a 0.6 bar pressure on mains feed cold. Can I use a pumped electric shower on that or is it tank only?
@plumbworldYT8 ай бұрын
Thank you for your question! Pumped electric showers aren't suitable for connecting directly to a cold mains feed. You can use a standard electric shower with a pump though, providing you're not using a combi boiler. If you do have a combi boiler then a higher kilowatt rating of electric shower may well give you a bit of a boost as it'll be able to heat more water faster, but you would need to be mindful of the electrical cable that's being run to it. Too high of a kilowatt may result in overheating of the cables which is dangerous. The only other advice we can offer is the potential to upgrade your boiler. Conventional and system boilers are compatible with power showers which use a built-in pump for higher pressure. In situations like this, we would always advise that you speak with a qualified installer who can take a look at your setup. They'll then be able to advise on the best course of action for your particular situation.

I understood mostly everything that was sais here, and I still don't know what type of shower I need. My water pressure is pathetic. I live in a 1970's end terrace with a plastic water tank in the loft, and a boiler with a big copper tank in the airing cupboard. The pressure on my mains water feed is also pathetic according to the thumb over the tap scenario. If I cover the tap with my thumb I stop the water dead in its tracks. So confused 😁
@plumbworldYT8 ай бұрын
Thank you for your query. It sounds a lot like you have a gravity fed system. It may well be that there isn't enough pressure being generated if taps or showers on the first floor aren't far enough away from the tank. It doesn't mean that you can't have a powerful shower though as we do stock a wide range of shower types that work with gravity fed systems. Please see link below: www.plumbworld.co.uk/all-showers-101817-0000?s1474=LP+%2F+Gravity+Fed These are generally showers which include a built-in pump to boost the pressure that's delivered through your shower head. Whether you want a power shower or mixer shower will really come down to personal preference but if you're unsure we would always advise speaking to a qualified installer because they will be able to better understand the water system you've got, guaranteeing that you get what best suits your needs.

@@plumbworldYT Wow what a consise reply. Thank you very much for your input, its very much appreciated. Yes my boiler, and copper tank are literally in the bathroom airing cupboard, and the plastic tank in the loft is practically right over the top of where I would have the shower. So you're right on both counts. I normally like to do these things myself as an experienced DIYer but I think you have conviinced me this is one job out of my wheelhouse. Time to call a plumber.

Hi, is digital shower an electric shower? I have Aqualisa digital quartz shower. I was told JML shower head(hard water softener) shouldn't be used in an electric shower. So confused if mine is electric or not. But i dont have that small box next to the shower head.
@plumbworldYT9 ай бұрын
Hi, if you do indeed have a digital shower and no box then your shower shouldn't be electric. It will just be the controls on a digital shower that are electric. If you are unsure at all we advise contacting a plumber for professional advice.

Great review as usual James, I was looking buy a Ximax 1800x600 from S Fix but saw this video and you guys have a Duratherm which is better priced! 😊 quick question…I have this being installed on hollow wall in the kitchen so think single rad might be better than the dual as it’s twice the weight at nearly 50kg! Is there much more output in the dual (I guess it’s twice the capacity logically) I’m just concerned about the weight more than anything. Output seems ok on this one too. Cheers Jamie
@plumbworldYT9 ай бұрын
Thank you for your message, Jamie. For double panel radiators, we would advise a solid wall installation, unless you also purchase the legs to also mount them on. The output will vary depending on style but for example, an 1800x600mm oval tube radiator would kick out approximately 7800BTU (@delta 50) and a single would do approximately 4000BTU (@delta 50). If you are unsure at all we would suggest getting advice from a qualified heating professional as projects will vary from one to another. Best, Plumbworld Marketing Team

Hi. Thankyou for the informative video. I was hoping to fit a digital shower but i live in a hard water area and i have been told digital showers are at risk of failure from limescale. Are digital showers more susceptible to failure from limescale than a traditional mixer shower? Thankyou
@plumbworldYT10 ай бұрын
We're glad you found the video useful. The internals shouldn't be any less prone to limescale than a traditional mixer shower. If you are worried though, you can consider fitting a filter to their mains water supply to remove the excess minerals. Always speak to a qualified installer to ensure you're getting the right type.
