I was 13 years old when this happened in 1974. All the Stars in the world are there. Most of them are gone now but what a great time it was it still makes me cry. Blessings 🙏💞

Thank you for uploading this. I had it on VHS but due being almost 50 years old, the tape has corroded. Just a shame the start of James Acceptance speech is missing, but I've seen it a few times on KZfaq. I'd emailed AFI to try to buy the ceremony, but they never replied. I had all of James Cagney films on DVD/Video or recorded from TV. Unfortunately I had to throw most away, due to videos being covered in white powder due to corrosion. Was great to see this again, especially Frank Sinatras musical tribute.

Why did they do all just just for Bette Davis? I mean she’s an icon but all this! I’m impressed

Barbara Stanwyck aged better than any film star ever! She matured of course - but she was a stunning older woman with a beautiful figure and no face work. Even Bette Davis and Katherine Hepburn succumbed to facelifts in their seventies!! Yes, that's when people use to get facelifts. Just the pulled skin type. Now actresses get deep plane SMAS lifts in their early 40s.

The Geraldine Fitzgerald story is gold and funny - back in the day when people told the truth at these events. Even more golden if you remember the wonderful "Anne" in Dark Victory and how beautifully she and Bette Davis worked together.

My husband was the doorman at the Caladonian Hotel in Edinburgh for over 40 years. He was fortunate enough yo meet a lot of interesting people over that time. One of these people was a gentleman named Lloyd Ogilvie who was the 14th Minister for the senate in America. He was great friends with James Stewart and would meet him for breakfast at the Bellaire Country Club although Mr Stewart never ever played golf.He said he was one of the nicest kindest people he had ever met.

His greatness, the likes of which we will never see again. A Michelangelo, a Rembrandt, a Picasso of film. If one can compare . I think one can. Artistry!

Paul Newman gave me a Budweiser at this event. (He was a favorite of mine, so I was pretty stoked!) Every famous American actor seemed to be there, from John Wayne to John Ritter. (John R was on the sitcom Three's Company -- he was loose and really funny.) What was I doing there?? Parking the cars of the stars! (...while in college.)
