I hope ypu weren't implying near the end of this video thay this movie was better than The Marvels. That movie was fun and well made with 3 incredibly likeable leads. This movie was badly made and very very boring. That's why it flopped.

I understand why he did channi this way, and I respect it. See, the problem with Frank Herbert’s original dune is that the intention is to warn against messiah figures like Paul, yet it fails to make this a warning but rather a chosen one story come about through relatively justified means. Paul’s entire family and planet worth of people were wiped out for a seemingly no good reason. He is completely justified in taking revenge and overthrowing the emperor. In the books, he leads the fremen and just falls in line with the prophecy. With his ability to see the future, he sees the inevitable future, and he chooses the best that serves him and the fremen.The fremen, in his name, then go to war because the great houses wouldn’t recognize Paul’s ascension to the throne. Now, Paul’s at risk of losing his new family and people. The only way to guarantee their safety and security is to go through with the holy war, and win. Paul isn’t unjustified in this action, his actions were retaliations to a genocide of his people and the potential genocide of the fremen. With this in mind, this doesn’t come off as a warning against messiah figures, but rather a story where the character you like wins and gets the happy ending. This is the fault of Frank Herbert. Now in this new version, the movies, the actual message Frank Herbert is going for is being better pushed. Paul and Jessica are more manipulative and Jessica and Alia seem to be downright evil in some regards. Channi as a character in the movie version is therefore better for pushing the message. HOWEVER, writing channi the way they did means that the adaptation for Dune messiah will be incredibly different and a whole different story than what was portrayed in the book. I like the book version of the story better, but the movies send Frank Herbert’s message better than Frank Herbert’s original dune book does. Just depends what you want.

Theres no primary source for this, there is a source from Frank Herbert saying he'd planned and started writing a trilogy from the beginning. Denis wrote the films this way because i doubt the public would endorse the sequels otherwise. It really would read as a white saviour and thered be no garantee of Dune Messiah.

@Swappin.Thoughts5 күн бұрын
I tend to believe the director is the primary one to blame because during or after the script is written, it still has to get passed off by the director, the actors, screenwriters, and directors are all at fault, but the weight of the fault lies on the director and producers.

Its sounds like he wanted to do his own thing, and didnt care about what the fans wanted, or what the past directors (Matt Reeves and Rupert Wyatt) had created, and envisioned, which really sucks cuz the storyline was so interesting. Just, watching the slow growth of the apes and decline of humanity paired with conflicting morals, and the Caesar family tree saga, starting with Caesars dad creating the virus. Caesar creating the ape refuge. Caesars son indirectly starting a war… then helping his father end it. To the death of Caesar, and the unknown future of his only child (Cornelius) after the events of war for the planet of the apes. we were supposed to see it grow, instead we jump 300 yrs and know nothing of the whereabouts or impact of the main family :/

Why is nobody talking about how bad the editing is? The movie isn’t that bad. But, the editing, primarily during the flash-forwards, becomes unwatchable.

I think Frank Herbert himself would have approved this change for the movie format. movie Chani becomes the audience surrogate that loves Paul deeply, but brings ethical judgement into the foreground instead of being blinded by Rose coloured glasses. She loves him, but despises his later actions where he cynically steps into a manufactured religious position he doesn’t believe in, one that will lead to billions of deaths of other humans, in order to get his revenge, and save the lives of a handful of people who matter to him. Frank described himself as a Buddhist, and no Buddhist would save themselves at the expense of other people’s lives.

I think Disney made mistakes either by moving too fast and not vetting someone enough, or by just making a bad decision by hiring the wrong person. I don't think they're perfect, and they haven't been with Star Wars or Marvel. But, it's easy to talk about all of the failures, what about the successes? Mando, Book of Boba, Ashoka, Andor, Bad Batch, all good additions. Even the direction they're teeing up a new set of movies for looks and sounds fun to me so far. Disney owns the IP now, like it or not, and that means is going to become more Disney-like. Shallow dramas, cardboard characters, and "pandering" (which I disagree with, but that's not for here) to marginalized groups. That's been present in Disney media since I've been alive. To see it now in Star Wars and be surprised is just bad anticipation on the fan's part. Making a story your own is exactly what I want from a creator. I can disagree with how they do so, but to assert that it's wrong to make something your own when your job is to be creative seems ass-backwards to me. Again, you can go about it wrong - the final seasons of GoT are evidence - but you should definitely make it your own while still being respectful. And I agree some media has not been, but that falls into the "moving too fast" or straight up hiring mistake. Then there is the whole tree of thought that the product (because that's what it is) is going to change to try and capture and retain new users. The old formula for star wars works for it's existing fanbase, but it isnt going to get new fans that dont like that formula. All in all, you'll like some and dislike others. There's more than one set of hands working on the project now, calling the shots, and pulling it in different directions. Everyone (including the fans) has conflicting ideas of what is right or wrong, what works and doesn't. Welcome to the world.
