Does the Query Loop get cached or does the block make a call to the DB every time a user accesses a post it is configured on? What is the impact of the Query Block on the DB and thus on the response times? And as the number of posts increases, does the query loop slow down? Let's say I have 10k articles/blogposts, will the query loop block slow down the page response times?

By default, the Query Loop block doesn't implement its own caching mechanism. Employing pagination or limiting the number of posts displayed per page can help maintain performance, even with a large volume of content.

what about icons on the menu? You guys didn't think that let's make an easy way to replace bland text with some icons? You know that most websites use icons instead of text.

Hi Ryan, I was able to build a block of my own based on the core blocks. It's working as I need it to. However, I have built this in a local WP env. How do I export this as a plugin (zip file or JSOn) so as to install this as a plugin on my live site? Thanks.

why don't use the no-plugin flag to create the second block rather the "manual" approach in the 19:00 minute? thanks?
@juanmagarrido14976 күн бұрын
@amirnadji5427, thanks for your comment. Using "create-block" with the "--no-plugin" flag would be another perfectly valid approach.

It would be possible to have as soon as possible a video that explains how to write a really useful block (tabs system for example) instead of these elementary videos that are basically useless since the documentation is a mess and the only way to learn how to write real blocks is to download the ones already made. If the answer is no, say so immediately ... thanks

I am a non developer and wanted to use one of the core blocks to make small change. But i got very little, in fact no help. Although these videos did help me understand the basics. But it wasn't straight forward. My background in CS classes in Uni did help me understand the flow. But yes, I agree that the documentation is indeed a mess. If devs like you are struggling, then non dev people like me are lost. If I had to create a custom block from ground up, I wouldn't know what to do. I did use ChatGPT to generate small bits of code, but how to know if that code is the best unless one is a developer.

Hi Nick, I want to modify the Title block a bit to suit one of my needs. Do I need to have an IDE to copy the entire block code from github and make the relevant changes and build it? or can I just duplicate the folder structure on my WP installation and make the relevant modifications? will that work? and how to make the block upgradeable so that when WP updates the Title block (in my case), my custom block also can be updated without it affecting my site. Thanks.

The need for custom post types, custom fields, and custom taxonomies in WordPress has become undeniable. Despite this, the platform still requires users to install third-party-plugins or write code to access these essential features. WordPress should offer a built-in solution for creating and managing custom post types, custom fields, and custom taxonomies that is as robust and user-friendly as industry-leading plugins like Advanced Custom Fields. Users expect a CMS of WordPress's caliber to natively support these advanced features without necessitating writing custom code or relying on third-part-plugins.

Please just make the basic features work without exiting or switching software. We shouldn't need to search for plugins, use browser tools, type VScode docs.

Great work, but please avoid using cute names for elements. Stick to standard web design terminology. Use terms like div, section, and container instead of group, block, and other non-standard names. Ensure a proper semantic HTML structure.

That is precisely the idea that I had in mind! I have to create a site for a general practitioner doctor's office. I have searched templates for doctor's office websites but none appeal to me as they do not convey the specific meaning. Using Elementor was what I was thinking, but you get restricted there. Creating purely with Wordpress might just be the answer. Thank you for the tutorial.

NIck and JuanMa, Thanks to both of you for a very valuable session . In some circumstances, I wished a core block had certain properties that another one had (like borders, shadows). This provided some ways to do it though it will take me some time to digest. The documentation is much appreciated. Ben
@BirgitPauli-Haack26 күн бұрын
@goatcheeta contributors have been working on bringing more design tools to the core blocks. The next version of Gutenberg plugin (18.9) for instance, will add border support to media+text, paragraph, gallery, quote, heading, social links, term description and buttons.

I tried doing the admin side as shown in the video and got some errors. I'm a touch confused as the documentation just says $hook_suffix which I'm really not sure what that even means. function bookstore_enqueue_scripts(){ //get the css filepath $filepath = plugins_url() . '/bookstore/css/bookstore.css'; wp_enqueue_style('bookstore-style', $filepath); } do_action('admin_enqueue_scripts', 'bookstore_enqueue_scripts');

Is there an easy way to do a horizontal tabs block in core? I'm wondering, because in the core 2024 theme dashboard when I click "learn more about the 6.6 version," there they are. Tabs, explaining what's new, credits, freedoms... With nice rollovers and everything. Is it a pattern? Is there a way for me to duplicate that?
