Mine seems 98% all in 90% range for all three… all my other children are beautiful and fine?! I’m so confused (diffferent dad he’s healthy though). I’m scared

It’s understandable to feel scared when you receive unexpected news about your baby on ultrasound. The majority of pregnancies with NT greater than the 95th % are born healthy. I would recommend you speak to a genetic counselor or high risk OB provider about your ultrasound further and what genetic testing is available to you.

Thank you for detailed information. Can you please explain the difference between MaterniT21 & AFP blood test dueing pregnancy? Thank you.
@allaylife
@allaylife 2 ай бұрын
The AFP blood test was designed to determine if a pregnancy is at increased risk for certain birth defects, such as spina bifida or an abdominal wall defect. The AFP blood test does not provide any information about the chance for a pregnancy to be affected with a chromosome condition (such as Down syndrome). MaterniT21 is a test that provides information about the chance for a pregnancy to be affected with certain (not all) chromosome conditions. MaterniT21 is the company name of a type of test called "NIPT" or "Non Invasive Prenatal Testing." Please check out my video on NIPT for a detailed explanation of this test - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bdF3lsSAkqq-k30.htmlsi=XHnVgcKx-q5cySJl

My panorama NIPT showed 1:10 of trisomy 18. I have done amniocentesis and it has shown normal fetus karyotype. NIPT was false positive

My baby has 6mm nuchal thickness in his 22 weeks of ultrasound and i did NIPT test got all the results negative but i got one more ultrasound in week 30 and nuchal thickness is still 6mm what should i do now ? do i need to talk to Fetal maternity and get amniocentesis or should stay calm because NIPT test was negative and everything else in ultrasound is fine just the thickness is still the same ? i’m really worried
@allaylife
@allaylife 5 ай бұрын
This video is specific to increased nuchal translucency in the first trimester. Thickened nuchal fold in the second trimester is typically defined as a measurement equal to or greater than 6.0mm between 15-20 weeks gestation. This finding (if seen in isolation meaning no other abnormal ultrasound findings) can be associated with Down syndrome (trisomy 21) but NIPT typically has a 99% detection rate for that condition. Some people feel they need an amnio to confirm their negative NIPT results but others feel ok without amino. There is not any consistent data or research on the meaning of a thickened nuchal fold later in gestation (after 20 weeks).

The way AFP results are reported can be confusing. I hope you can speak to your provider about your results to gain some clarity. I have also seen providers order the wrong AFP test (this test can be ordered on non pregnant women for other reasons).

Your posting was the most concise, helpful, and informative I have read regarding NT. My daughter in law is currently dealing with getting a high NT value during her pregnancy and I want to understand the situation without asking her too many questions during this stressful time. I greatly appreciate you sharing your knowledge on this subject.

Hi Kendra, my sister’s AFP-M screening value is 2.1581 MOM and is shown as high risk on the report (the standard is < 2 MOM in this clinic) . Is this something that need further diagnosis?
@allaylife
@allaylife 8 ай бұрын
This sounds like a "screen positive" result since it's over the cutoff value (2 MoM) that the lab uses. A level II ultrasound would be indicated with the option of amniocentesis, depending on the ultrasound.

Hi, I got high NT value of about 5.5 mm as of 14 weeks and day 2. I got low risks in double marker tests. My gynaec suggested to go for amniocentesis. Are there chances of low risks in amniocentesis given the double marker is low?
@allaylife
@allaylife 10 ай бұрын
The double marker test only screens for 2-3 chromosome conditions, whereas the amniocentesis can test for many more conditions. An increased NT can be associated with other conditions that the double marker test did not screen for. Having a low risk double marker test decreases the risk for a fetus to have the specific conditions the test screened for, but the double marker test is not 100% accurate.

Great video. Very helpful. Our NIPT came back 82% for Monosomy x. Our GC didn’t give us much hope for a false positive. Stating it’s the best test and fairly accurate. Only seen a few cases in years where it is wrong. Dashed our hopes. That along with our older age (both 39)…looking grim. Amnio set in a few weeks

Could it be elevated if the placenta is attached in the bottom?

Elevated AFP levels can be associated with placenta previa (which is when the placenta lies very low in the uterus and covers all or part of the opening to the cervix)

During my first pregnancy I had serum screening since NIPT was still quite costly and not covered by insurance. In my more recent pregnancy, I opted for NIPT and it was fully covered by insurance. Both of my pregnancies came back low risk for the chromosomal syndromes included on the screens, so I didn't pursue any diagnostic testing. I am not sure what I would have done had either test come back high risk. It probably would have depended on the condition identified to be high risk, the ultrasound findings, and my gestational age. Thanks for the great video!
