I enjoyed the video. Good to see the railway bridge open. Fist time for me. 'was wondering is there any coverage of the construction of 'The Mile Tunnel' as we called it and the first train going through it. 'Been through it myself a couple of times.

Very nice footage, does it need the area close to the bow tidied up? Was hard to tell if it's the paint or something else

It's a good question Liam, there was a lot of food in before Christmas, sprat and herring, so that would have encouraged them. But at this stage I'm not sure. Hopefully it's not a sign of hunger and lack of food at sea. I just don't know for sure

Ye referring to pill Andrew. I was born and bred in Newport Monmouthshire South Wales and an area down by the docks is called Pillgwenlly which is abbreviated by locals and known as Pill. It’s well known (some tell me 😉🤫) as a district of prostitution . Apparently the full name derived from King Gwynllyw founder and patron saint (also adopted patron saint of choice by welsh pirates) of Newport in the 5th century. In his ea rly days as an active pirate 🏴‍☠️ he kept and maintained his ships in the pill at Pillgwenlly. Maybe over a coffee we can chat about stories of pirates/ fishing oh and prostitution 😂😂😂

@@tidesntales if ever we get together for a ☕️ ye might be able to enlighten me on medieval ships ballast. We seemed to be blessed on our stretch of Bannow estuary with what I’d call non-Irish rock/stones almost quartz like. As the estuary was a trading thoroughfare to Clonmines outpost + castles in medieval times I’m just wondering if the material is from faraway shores and used as ballast on incoming traders?

Hi. I've been interested in buying a kayak/small boat for rowing around the Waterford estuary. I'm 18 and I've only gone kayaking a few times. Apart from a life jacket, what other safety precautions do you take while out on the water? I'd love to be able to row freely around the estuary. Is there any training I'd have to do first? Thanks in advance
@tidesntales
@tidesntales 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Eavan, I'd do some bit of training, but the three things I'd suggest are 1. Get a tide book and get to understand the tides and how they run. 2. Pay attention to forecast and if possible always ask a local where possible about conditions. 3. Get to know an area well, what's underneath you, any dangers eg shipping and slowly build your confidence. Another thought is take part in something where others can show you the way, training, a course, or maybe the annual kayak run from Cheekpoint to Waterford.
