I dont really get the motivation behind vehicles suffering through armor criticals more often. They use the same armor plating as mechs, and probably have sturdier structures given their smaller size and shape and lack of joints. The only reason as far as Im concerned is to deliberately make vehicles worse so that mechs retain the title of battlefield kings >_>

What is with Battletech's most loved/popular mechs having critical design flaws?

an advanced rules that might be interesting to try out that might help quads a little bit - the rear torso is the *underside*. If a mech is at the same or higher elevation it simply cant hit the rear, and a reduced chance if at a lower elevation. But, armor and infantry can hit the rear torso normally (infantry perhaps at a bonus). Perhaps partial cover giving it a huge bonus to protect the legs? though, there is also the advanced rule where partial cover provides no bonus, but can instead absorb hits if the random hit location is covered, so there is that too. I also think the advanced construction item of 'turret' should be pretty standard (and maybe even free) for quads

The AC20s range problem can easily be solved in later eras and for very cheap. TSM... why upgrade to double heatsinks when you can slap in TSM and move fast when your hot, close into weapons range get your shot off then throw hands and conserve that prescious ammo for the next unfornate House warrior who wandered to far into the periphery and stepped on your lawn

I typically mod mechs when i am able to put ammunition in the legs, which are *almost* always better armored than either side torso and any rear torso area, and a leg being blown off is less devastating than a torso explosion; since there is still a chance that the explosion damage will be sufficient enough to transfer to the corresponding torso, i like to stick CASE in there anyways just in case. But most of the time, by the time an enemy is able to blast through leg armor to hit the ammo, much of it will have been expended, to keep the torso damage fairly low of course, all bets are off if its MG, SRM2 or AC/2 ammo

The IS and Clans can't just take the mythical concept of the centaur and make that the core design doctrine of the Quadmechs. Nope, they went the "make it like an animal"-route. Which only worked out for the Mandrill.

A captured MechWarrior can be worth quite a lot of C-bills when randomed. But you need infantry to flush downed MechWarriors out of hiding, capture them and guard them once caught.

Frankly, I have the feeling that CGL came to the conclusion that too many of "The Wrong Kind of People" were Blakeists and thus made the deliberate decision to end that faction in a way that would alienate those fans and convince them to leave.

Okay what about Com Stars explorer cor? Did they ever give a definitive size of the explorer corp? How many ships they possessed how large of comguard units were part of them? How many secret faces it had outside the atmosphere and the rims and beyond? And remember kerensky I left ships abandoned during The Exodus this is factual when the clans found some and fought for the right to claim them. Com Star could be resurrected by them. What role they would play in the future I don't know, but they could be like the clans coming back to the inner sphere to save the interfere.

Personally with the X1 I'd of ditched the AC10 for an UAC5 and 3 tons of ammo and swapped the MGs for small lasers. Then give tle LRMs another ton and a half of ammo Puts the mech far better into reach out and touch the enemy from long range and better endurance. Though the X4, mmm mmm consider me onboard for that.

I always liked the bushwacker, its the starting mech in mechwarrior 2-3 something... Upgrading to LB10x was the first thing to do when salvaged and then blasting legs...

I did like the clans more when I did not know much about them. Having read two of the "funny stories of what the Kerensky-brotherw were up to back then" books, it felt like the stories took away the magic from the founder and grounded him in reality. I didn't like the feeling. I like my Kerensky more mystified.

My Favorite Mech! I beat that Mechwarrior game with this mech! (Can't remember which title it was introduced in but I believe it was either Mechwarrior 4 or that Mercenaries one.) Built right, that machine could handle anything 20 tons heavier and 20 tons lighter than itself. Not pretty but it always got the jobs done!

My top two personally would have to be the King crab beyond all compare, and the little urbie because ain't nothing funnier then watching your assault mech get cored by a walking trashcan with an AC/20

I came here from a video about why the Sherman beat the Panzer III. German tanks were very good. But, they never had parts enough for them and some of them were pains to work on. The Sherman just worked. War machines that work can mean the difference between victory and annihilation.

I will note the AC-10 can use ammunition the LB-X10 can't, and you can risk rapid fire with slightly greater risk of jamming compared to an Ultra. That said, I prefer the LB as well. As to the Gauntlet-A, I am ever reminded that anyone that can source or build clan-spec ER-Medium Lasers should scrap the Light PPC as soon as possible. The Light PPC is just underwhelming, only beating the IS ER-ML by 1 hex per range bracket for triple the tonnage and double the crits. The clan model beats its range and damage for the same heat, and is still only 1 ton, 1 crit.
