If Hammett put more effort into composing he would be perfect for Metallica. He wrote some great solos in the 80s, and, imho, his best work was on the Black Album. The solos were melodic and thematic with great phrasing. Marty is a better fit for Megadeth because of his exotic style, which complements Mustaine’s more complex compositions. In terms of knowledge, skill, talent, and creativity, Marty is a better player by a country mile.

Kirk seriously just isn't that good at guitar. He can do some basic shit but that's it. Marty Friedman is way better than him in every way. Kirk makes sounds that sound alright with what he CAN do, but it's limited and even then pretty boring once you're used to that style. There is never a dull note for Marty Friedman.

Both different players, but I have to give Marty credit on this. He crafted hands-down the greatest metal guitar solo ever when he wrote Tornado of Souls, so that gives him one of many advantages. Also, he is very versatile, and his picking technique allows him to play anything and everything. However, Kirk's solo on Fade To Black is a very close second, so I have to give him that. All in all, Marty has an edge on Kirk, but I doubt it matters, seeing as they are both good guitar players in their own right.

Kirk Hammett killed it in Fade to Black I never see any of these videos showing that solo as part of the competition. However Marty is just too good. His solo in lucretia gives me orgasms every time especially the sound at 5:10
