Edition 3.5 as i like it to call it (the red book) is probably the best rule book i have ever used for wargaming.

Rank and file. The linguistic evolution to 'flank' is understandable as players who don't know miniature gaming enter but it sounds really odd in a video about the history of this sort of game.

Love the relationship between Mantic and the community, I wish more people would try anything other than GW, they do not deserve the unflinching loyalty they somehow have.😊

When are they going to fix the KoM General on Pegasus? He is missing an attack! It is listed as 4, not 5, like his foot and horse-mounted versions, which makes him over-priced an undesirable and a never used option! (Even the Hero hero retains all of his attacks when mouted on the pegasus!)

The only problem I can see is the quality of the miniatures. My gaming friends flat out refused the game because of it. And now old world is out. Unfortunately Warhammer is back baby.

Probably my favourite thing about the game is that its smooth rules really let the hobby and social aspects of events shine. The emphasis on clarity and consensus keeps arguments to a minimum so you can focus on meeting new people and enjoying their beautiful creations!

Kings of War is such an amazing game I really hope The Old World crashes and burns leading to those buyers looking for options and finding Kings of War. I know I'm salty. I don't care. Amazing video <3

Nice sales job. I will take a deeper look at this game thanks to this vid. Does it scale down to skirmish level fights?
@MasterCrafted6 ай бұрын
Take a look at Ambush - you can play on a smaller table size with modified rules to play with just a few units.
@JMcMillen5 ай бұрын
For skirmish games you'd need Kings of War Vanguard. Unfortunately, I don't think they've done anything with that game in years. The stuff is still for sale so you could give it a try.

Great video, thanks for that. I follow Mantic since the beginning and collected several Armies from them (some Minis where hit and miss, but hey). I really like the improved miniatures quality - really awesome (Ogres and Twillight Kin/Nighthaunt). The game rules are exactly my cup of tea!

I'm not super keen on subscription models, but I get so much use out of the gold subscription that I can't imagine playing without it. Searchable rule book, key work rules tabbing in lists and army list builder is just great

It’s certainly tempting, the hardest part for a newcomer is “which of these armies”. Particularly if you know some wargame mechanics for other games and aren’t sure how that translates into the KoW world

Awesome video. I'm new to KoW but my son and I are loving it. Some constructive criticism, please invest in a pop filter, every time you say a word with p in it there is an annoying pop in the audio, very pronounced with headphones. Loving your videos though man and looking forward to more, KoW and Mantic in general deserve way more coverage than they get.

KOW is truly the best tabletop fantasy game that I've played and it's allowed me and my local community to have large scale mass battles in half the time as the games are fast, clean and most importantly my head doesn't hurt after multiple games. You can get a 2000pt game done easily within 2 hours. The other cool aspect is the hobby - KOW allows a lot of focus on hobby with multibasing and dioramas which are awesome and lends itself to having more players who are hobby focused.

Yea the current rulebook has all the army lists! And the latest Clash of Kings supplement will feature the updates from the rulebook. 1 main book and 1 supplement is all you need to have all the rules and all 28 army lists of the game!

Great video! I cannot agree more about Kings of War being a streamlined, multi layered game which is easy to learn, hard to master. Its easy to look past the simple fact its only in its 3rd edition on its continued journey of being the best rank and flank gaming system and community in the world.

Great game. Super fun to play and multi-basing makes armies look amazing. I love it! 👍
@johnmitchell90006 ай бұрын
Yes this is a Great game. The game engine concept is very good and different. But the darkside is that you need to buy new updated Clash of Kings update books (think Codex's) each year. The lists in the "New" rulebook I just bought a year ago are already out of date, unless I use the Clash of Kings 2024 update. Without the free Mantic army builder that makes updated lists, my friends and I would be done with the game. Great game. But its too bad the company is turning into GW.
@HordesofThings6 ай бұрын
Hmm I think more like day and night different. -Mantic is a free update once a year to keep up interest, growth and do some minor balancing tweaks, with rules developed by expert commmunity design team. Yes you can purchase a single (one, 1, uno), Clash of Kings update book a year IF you want all the new lore, but you can instead just use the free app as you say, which is what many of my local group do. This is day. -GW is very expensive codex power creep and wild imbalances every couple of months, and an incompetent design team in charge. This is night.
@limazulu10656 ай бұрын
It's only one book per year, and you actually don't even need to buy it, because the Companion App updates automatically.
@durnaxe87086 ай бұрын
While I don't play the game (wish I could find players) but having point update are huge. I play Team Yankee and Flames of War and those games don't get point updates which is a huuuuge balancing problem. Oh boy I'm glad the most battle tested combat vehicle in history (the USA M1A1 Abrams) is 100% worthless in my games! So while you may "need" to get a book points update once a year. Its better then GWs every 6 months and new edition every 4 years, or the opposite of never getting a points update and looking at your cool models and going "wow I wish I could use those but they get removed from the table as fast as I put them on it".
