came to see if this was a good version of the book to get - kind of disappointed that you rattled off a bunch of big story moments that didn't seem very necessary to the point of the video. can't watch the rest because don't want to get every surprise or twist spoiled before even getting the book.

TBH, Ultimate Spider-Man did the clone saga way better than how it's written in Amazing Spider-Man because there was so much to catch up in the clone saga, from Amazing Spider-Man, Spectacular Spider-Man, and Peter Parker Spider-Man which is very confusing. Ultimate Spider-Man made it less convoluted by writing a better story. For example, having Ultimate Soider-Woman as a clone of Peter when she was created by Doc Ock makes sense while having Ben Reilly die over and over again while trying to piece his existence doesn't make sense. I mean, you started him off as a random clone of Spider-Man, then make him into a hero. kill him off, bring him back as a hero, make him into a villain, kill him off again, bring him back again, Make him into a hero, and make him into a villain again. This supports the reason why the Beyond storyline sucked, especially under the direction of Zeb Wells.

The Tennesse school board decided this book was inappropriate for 8th grade due to coarse language, one instance of nudity & some adult discussion of sexuality, among other things. In other words, if this was a movie, it would be R-rated. Eighth graders would be too young to be admitted. Maus is a great book, but it covers a very dark period of history that is not appropriate for all ages. I don't think children & young teens need to be traumatized about the horrors of war at this level. They need to feel secure. High school is different because by about age 16 kids begin to have questions about serious issues & to think critically. They will soon be voters & the weight of the world will be upon their shoulders. A book like Maus will be important in instructing them about the realities of evil & why they need to be vigilant as citizens to protect our freedoms. The word "banned" gets thrown around a lot any time a parent objects to a book, but it's really not that cut and dried. Many books just need to be managed age-appropriately.
@BKsBullets2 ай бұрын
Age appropriate-ness is totally important. At the time of this recording- it was all out banning, not putting it where the book belongs. I took AP European history in 10th grade and we were learning about the Holocaust. In that case this book would be age appropriate. I'm not arguing for elementary school kids reading this. I don't let my own kids read mainstream comics yet since they are not age appropriate to read them, in my parental opinion. I was arguing against all out banning.

It’s an interesting point about the evolving reputation of legacy this story has, because we’ve had *SO.* *MANY.* psychoanalytical Batman/Joker stories, they do threaten to render this one moot. I still consider this a classic. Bolland’s artwork is utterly peerless throughout, and Moore’s storytelling, while not his best, is still Moore’s storytelling. The succinctness of the story gives it staying power. What happened to Barbara was extreme and misogynistic and over the top, but I can honestly deal with it because how how she was written after. I also really enjoy the final Batman Joker fight. This story is simple, and it’s simplicity is something I long for in modern Batman comics. Everything is a long-ass arc, whereas his career should be a succession of bad days and bad nights.
