Rock my guy. 5 years ago this video was made. The company is growing. The stuff made at rock exotica is unique and frankly just awesome. The world is changing and I’d suggest, if I may, to get this channel going again. Getting out there showing the world who Rock Exotica is. People want to see this.

What if I don’t have webbing slots on my saddle for it to slide into and stow away. It’s a fairly older saddle. I was thinking of stitching my own webbing on specifically for this tool?

After many years of climbing I just now added the Unicender to my "toolbox". It is smaller than I expected it to be and I am really happy about that. I haven't had a chance to get out and do any climbing with it yet. I was able a couple years ago to demo a Uni and make a couple ascents and descents with it. I'm looking forward to putting it to work. I got a good look at the Unicender 2.0 at he last EXPO and I gotta say, @RockExoticaUSA you all should be seriously considering putting that into production. The "upgrades" will make it so much better overall for us climbers. 😎👍❤️🌲 Thanks for making so many great products! Keep yourselves safe! Randy

I nave many Rock Exocita products for caving and arborist work. All work well and many are best in class, far superior to the competition. Have the Unicender. and have done maybe 100 climbs in SRT mode with it. Works well on 10mm HTP so why do you sot "recommend" 10mm for HTP? Works with several 11mm and 12.7 mm as advertised. You can descend safely either fast or slow in control mode (I use Richard Mumfords Drum). I consider the other mode alike parachuting with an umbrella., e.g., completely unsafe. After a 30 foot rappel I can see tiny particles of aluminum on the wear points which is why many complain about . That sucks. Make a steel version (or titanium) and I will be first in line to purchase. The Unicender is way safer than a Rope Runner or a Akimbo. The Runner is difficult to mid line attach, has parts to loose. The Akimbo works on very few ropes ind is unsafe on most ropes. The instructions for SRT are lame. No lanyard is needed and just a very small caribiner like DMM XSRE will keep train you to ascend with your body vertical, but using your arms is the key. Please make the steel version you "promised" (see comment by Rock Exotica above).

Its pricey but waaaay better than normal ascenders. It really does slide up a rope butter smooth and grabs the rope right away. Being able to instantly descend is great too. With a Unicender tied to my waist harness, and a micro traction attached to a foot loop i can go fast up a tree. That's a really really lightweight rig, and again i can instantly descend.

For the price I think I'd rather go with a set of ascenders with foot loops for like $100 and a $5 rappel device of any kind or a few bucks of rope for hand and foot prussics. Also petzl makes something similar to this it may even be cheaper. The problem with this one is I don't see any foot assist except locking manually with your feet. So it that's true even a auto lock ascender safety would do the same job. Maybe I'm missing something tho
@Rockexotica-USA
@Rockexotica-USA 7 жыл бұрын
In the opening sequence the climber is ascending using the rope walking technique using a foot ascender and knee ascender. The Unicender can be used in single rope and doubled rope technique. You can attach it into a chest harness and it is self tending. It will automatically capture progress the instant it is weighted. Other products like the zigzag or friction hitches take up to a few inches to engage each time you advance up the line. If you have any other questions let us know and we can help answer them. Cheers

Mspark400 Smith on top of that, the Zigzag isn't midline attachable like the Uni is (which comes in VERY handy!) I'm pretty sure the Zigzag isn't designed for SRT either
@Celric_Death
@Celric_Death 2 жыл бұрын
@@ArsonistArborist Zigzag is intended and rated for both SRT and DRT, but with all the recalls and the fact you can't attach midline is a big downside. Unicender is almost the Holy grail for some of us being midline attachable and SRT/DRT rated. I like the zigzag, especially the new Zigzag plus but I straight up love the unicender. Especially with some slight mods.

@@Celric_Death for sure. My comment was a from long time ago. The zigzag used to be strictly drt. Now the updated version is srt as well. I do love my uni, but I almost never touch it anymore. My go-to is the akimbo now. If the uni was made from stainless and didn't wear so fast, I would probably still use it

I can understand it costing somewhere around $450 NZ due to the exchange rate. But $600 is pretty steep. that's a lot of tariffs and taxes. I can see why you would be put off by the price. Sorry.

I've loved my Uni the whole time I've had it. Such a revolutionary tool. The slack tending could have been better thought out, wish it came standard with the pulley and drum, some great advancements made (by Mumford, I think?) The midline attachability is key. I feel the biggest downfall is the aluminum construction. I only climb for my small side business, so it's lasted a few years.. but for guys that climb constantly, the uni wears pretty rapidly. Not sure if RockExotica composed it from aluminum for heat dissipation? I just recently found a way to incorporated a figure eight descender with my uni and it saves a lot of wear. But unfortunately, I discovered this too late.. today I had some slippage, guess the uni needs rebuilt. Sure wish I could get the plates made out of stainless though. Even if I have to do a slower descent. I sure hope you guys work something out with Jaime and get the Akimbo on the market ASAP.. but please use materials that will last! I think that's my next ascender to replace the uni. Loved it, but I think there's better options now
@Rockexotica-USA
@Rockexotica-USA 7 жыл бұрын
Hopefully the next rendition of the Unicender has stainless steel incorporated at the wear points. The Akimbo will have stainless steel at the wear points, so it will last a very long time. You can send your Uni back for a re-build or a new Uni for half off. In the mean time, I would recommend jumping up to a larger diameter climbing line. The Akimbo will be amazing!

@@Myrkskog Unicender is never getting a CE mark so for us in the UK we are never getting it. Personally though I know a guy who got them to test when they first got released and were waiting for certification. Because we are required by HSE to use 2 line systems now he gave me it for free so I'm currently running a unicender on one line and either a lockjack or zigzag on my "safety line" I can't advice anyone to do it since we technically aren't allowed to use them but realistically as long as you aren't caught doing it I don't see any issue using them. Even starting to look into modding it like some of the Americans are doing.
