I wish I could've seen that era of C&NW commuter service. But Metra F40s have still been great to watch.

1518 looks like a C&NW engine that ran the spur line behind my home when I was a little boy. 4 wheel trucks, high nose near the cab. What model number is this. Sure brings back memories from 60 years ago.
@schmidty390Ай бұрын
C&NW 1518 is a GP7, and the very first GP locomotive built by EMD.

You're cinematography is excellent! As a traction fanatic, the CNS&M Silverliners are some of my favorite interurbans. The Silverliner you're showing us here looks great for it's age. The CNS&M railroad is my second most favorite traction railroad, the Pacific Electric Railway is my number one fave. I'm glad I have an HO scale brass Silverliner in my traction model collection. I enjoyed watching the Silverliner in it's beautiful surroundings.
@schmidty390Ай бұрын
Thank you so much. I try to get better with every video with the cinematography. I also can't agree more with you. The North Shore Line worked a miracle with the Silverliners. The Pacific Electric was absolutely one of the greatest Interurbans that existed.

Those orange interurban cars are beautiful...classic beauties. 12:45 And this "green" beauty is a traction favorite of mine. 19:43 I've been trying to get a Suydam HO scale brass version of it for several years (pre-owned of course). I'm NOT going to give up. 😊 I enjoyed the excursion trip even if it was just on a straight track. 😂

Is the main station building the one Charlie Martin built?

It's nice seeing the Midwest Lines Layout, Rolf Plachter's masterpiece again. I'm glad you revisited it. And excellent camera work as usual. I see you're chasing two trains, and at the begining of this video, there's a Milw. Rd F-7 hudson (one of my favorite steam engines) coupled to a long Hiawatha trainset, at 00:11. But, during the entire video, the F-7 is seen hauling only the Hiawatha observation car, famed for it's "beaver" tail-end. Is there a reason for that? I thought the Hiawatha consist seen at the begining looked great, especially with their close coupling which makes the consist look very realistic. I'm a little surprised the F-7 wasn't pulling the consist. By the way, is the F-7 a brass model, and is it from Overland Models, Inc? I have three HO scale brass F-7 Hudson Hiawatha steam locomotives from Overland Models. All unpainted. I hope to get, at least, one of 'em painted up and running on a layout similar to the Midwest Lines Layout someday. I enjoyed your video...keep up the good work!
@schmidty3902 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, we tested it, and with the solid brass diaphrams, it's going to need modification to run around the layout completely. Hopefully, soon, we can get a video of the whole set running and not just the beavertail.

Fantastic club. Brings back some great memories, in 1970 going into jr.high they had a lot of different clubs, my friends and I would read all the model railroading magazines. We asked if we could start a club, and they not only said yes but they gave us an entire unused classroom. The janitors cleared out all the desks and stored equipment and furnished us with all the supplies. I went back several years later and it was still growing. Good times indeed.

A fine layout. But I notice the lack of landscaping in regards to vegetation. I would expect trees and bushes all over the area. But no. Why is that? You will forgive me because after visiting Howard Zanes incredible layout I'm spoiled by his layout and any layout that is huge as his should be finished in the same manner.

Very nice, but it would be more prototypical to run the cars through city streets and around curves slower. For me, HO is frankly too small. With all due respect, if this was O or G it would be awesome. The couplers are too long or mounted wrong on some cars. The gap between cars is too great on some of them. Was much buying going on at the Madison show? Others showed video of what the vendors were selling. I noted that your video was basically of the impressive Northwest Traction Group display. I love the fact that the cars draw power from the live overhead trolley wires.
@schmidty3903 ай бұрын
The video was only of the Northwest Traction Group at Madison, with no video of the rest of the show. There were plenty of vendors selling there. We try to dial in the layout and get it running to the best of our ability, which means running at certain speeds.

I can't add much to the earlier comments - that's one nice layout. Looks like it could be great fun to operate on. I was amused by the steamer pulling what looked like a string of modern passenger cars. Gotta turn the sound way up on the UP turbine, so everyone hates it, just like in real life. 🙂
