Thank you for the video! I just got the bone-lock puzzle to help stimulate and give my dog some mental exercise. My dog, Duke, is having trouble opening the drawers. Do you have to hold/tilt the puzzle, or slightly open them? (Context: Duke is a healthy just large 115lb, 5 year old chocolate lab). Thank you for your time, and I would appreciate any insight or guidance! :)

yes, the bone lock puzzle can be a bit difficult. you can leave the drawers unlocked to make it easier. also does Duke know how to scratch on a scratch board. The pawing action on the scratchboard helped Nicky to learn to paw at the drawers. check out all my videos on learning to scratch the scratch board. hope this helps. Joyce

Try to be creative. If you have a dog that is not interested in the toy, tie a leash on the toy and move it slowly letting your dog follow. As your dog gets more interested, move the leash faster and make the toy move and jump. Maybe your dog will pounce on the toy. Lots of praise/ some dogs are hot wired to chase. Nicky is not as interested in the toy as Beezie. Watch for the next video showing how I taught Nicky to retrieve using clicker training. What breed of dog do you have. I have a 2 year old iggy. I have tried clipping his nails with no avail. I bought a dremel but he won't let me near him with it. I have had to get a groomer cut his nails. I would really like to try again with a dremel and do it myself. Do you have any tips on how I can get my iggy to trust me with it?
@DiamondDogTraining
@DiamondDogTraining 21 күн бұрын
Hi, there is so much more information I could have included in the video. Before I even try to Dremel a nail, I sit with my dog holding them and feed them chicken while I hold the Dremel. Hold the Dremel away from her and turn it on for just a fraction of a second and then off. Feed again. Also look for the quietest Dremel. I was using the Casfuy because Beezie is not bothered by the sound. For Nicky who panics when I do her nails, I use the Lucky Tail grinder. It is much quieter. Please check out my videos on Dremel Dog Nails. There are so many ideas in the videos to help you. Let me know how you are doing. It takes patience and lots of time to convince our dogs to let us Dremel their nails. Thank you . Joyce

I trained a similar behavior with my Mini Aussie, many years ago. She discovered she could sit on the back of the couch, in front of the bay window, to view the whole street and ALL the enticing activity!! And she LOVED To bark at all of it, people, cats, squirrels, birds, falling leaves, wind chimes...... She already knew WAIT, so I would sit on the couch when she got up there, and taught her, "wait-watch'em"- which she could BE there, but NO noise, and IF she did, she had to get off and lose her view.... she learned VERY quickly..... Later we moved to the country for 10 months a rental and NO fences, so both dogs quickly learned to apply that same command to walking in the yard, and then later for walking the trails near our current home! My corgi learned very quickly to just stop, and sometimes sit,as he grew older. when he saw some one approaching, Such good dogs! RIP Reba and Dax.... {See my channel for vids,} 🥰The thing I love about corgis and other herding breeds,,... they are like a good foot solder, the will walk all day, cope a squat when they can, drop down to prone when they can, but always ready to walk on, when you ask them too!

Thank you for the great comment. Yes, I have also used the technique of letting him sit at the door as long as he was not barking. For Champ when we removed Champ, he got very frustrated. For the first week, the puppy was separated by a puppy pen. They got to know each other by sniffing through the puppy pen. We also took walks where she carried the puppy in a sling and the older dog walked. We did a lot of things to help the 2 dogs get to know each other. Send me questions if I can help you. Thank you. Cover the windows so they can't see without you. Plan when you have distraction to expose them to for training. Having them do a different task, like sit/stay or go to their place/kennel can help. My Malinois has to go to her bed & settle if she gives more than a token alert. We don't let her look out without us because she redlines very quickly and needs immediate redirection.

Hello: please share some knowledge: my older dog (12 years old) French poodle, and recently got a 2 months old Shiba Inu, my French is trying to hump him, and recently started to pee at random places at the house, what can I do to help my older dog get used to new puppy ? Is this normal behavior?
@DiamondDogTraining
@DiamondDogTraining Ай бұрын
Give your Older dog lots of attention. Special time together without the puppy. Ask everyone who comes to see the new puppy to always pay attention to your French Poodle before they pet the puppy. Your older dog is acting out because they are stressed. Keep them separated except when you can sit with them and prevent the humping. Redirect the older dog away from the puppy. Maybe there is an odor from the puppy. Try wiping the puppy with a pet wipe. Also the poodle may just be trying to control the puppy and tell the puppy the poodle is in control. A little humping is not bad. The Shiba Inu is a strong willed breed and will need you to control the puppy and prevent him from jumping on the older dog. I hope this helps . Thank you . Joyce

I am also considering an IG but I live in Saskatchewan Canada where our winters average -10 - -20 C/15 - -4F and can get as cold as -40C/-40F. I know IGs aren't built for winter and I already saw your video on toilet training puppies being difficult but not impossible. What would you recommend, should we just toilet train the dog to go indoors during winter or should we persevere, dress them up and make them go outside?
@DiamondDogTraining
@DiamondDogTraining Ай бұрын
Hi, I would toilet train to go inside in the winter. My girls always go inside on their pads when the temperature drops down low and even in rainy horrible weather. Also with the coyotes, they frequently go inside at night rather than taking a chance of not seeing one outside. I think toilet training inside is a very wise idea for an Italian Greyhound where ever you live. Let me know if you get an IG and if you have any questions. Thank you . Joyce
