Looking forward to an update, Episode 3 of Nina's Midcentury Reno Project! Those brick walls seem hideous but so curious how you will make them palatable in a fresh new look.

This was my and my former husband's home; we bought it presale in 1994 for $369k when it was just a shell, and it was sold after he passed in 2014. In 1994, I designed the entire apartment, including the layout, so it's very gratifying to see that the renovators kept nearly all of my original floor plan and layout ideas. We created the loft; we added the master bedroom, which forms the upstairs loft. My husband built it with the help of friends -- I remember the struggle getting the huge I-beam in there! Even the radiant floor heating was our doing. I smiled when the presenter said of the chandelier, "They say it may be an original 1909 chandelier or a replica." No, it's not! It's a chandelier I chose in '94 to complement the cathedral feeling of the turret, which we used as a dining room. Also, that's not all original brick in the turret room. I insisted the builders add matching brick facing to the columns they added that jut out from the wall, which are structural reinforced concrete to support the original brick. I decidedly don't love some of the staging decor or art; especially, the new dining area isn't to my taste. I had my piano there instead, and behind the piano was an enclosed storage room/workshop. So interesting to see this thirty years later! I have pictures of the condo from the '90s when I lived there if the new owners happen to see this post and would like to contact me.

Wow! It's heartwarming to see that your former home, which you designed extensively, retains many of your original elements. You chose the chandelier to match the space's cathedral feel and added concrete-reinforced pillars disguised as brick in the turret room for structural support. While you don't love some of the new decor changes, especially the dining area where you once had a piano, it's satisfying that the renovators preserved your layout and much of your design. Your creative touch continues to leave a lasting impact on the apartment. Thanks for the message!

Way too small for the price, and that black kitchen would be a no-go for me. The courtyard and other amenities are great, but that means sky-high condo fees. $2.5M buys a detached waterfront home on Vancouver Island, better scenery, less noise and more space. Thanks for the tour.

Time and time again, i realize that if I'm ever successful enough to live in a home like this, I'd have to build a new one. Its big yes, but it feels naked inside. Also why do all these homes have 2 kitchens? If im rich enough that my money works for me and i have the time to actually cook at home for myself, thats a luxury. I'd never put a second kitchen and then hire a chef. Maybe thats because im european 😅 Anyways thanks for showcasing this home, even though its not 100% my style!
