I research about Total Communication. It was so risky because I had bad sign language, poor English, and a lack of speech in a mainstream school when I grew up there. My parents spoke Spanish and didn't even know how to sign language. I looked like I was a language deprivation. I wish they chose Cued Speech or Auditory/Oral for me instead of Total Communication.

Praise the best ignore the rest but what about behaviors you don’t want they to repeat. A simple ‘no’ does not get them to stop doing what they are not suppose to do. Ex: my 3 yr old language delayed boy had the dishwasher door opened all the way and was climbing on top of the door. Which can break. My mom told him 3 no’s and he didn’t comply. How are we to ignore something like this? If we just pick him up and off does he understand that he’s not suppose to repeat this behavior?

Thanks a lot. I have a speech delayed 3y-2m and she does respond to her name but usually when she notices a stern tone. She does have eye contact but it’s not very sustained. She does have communication intent but only until a bitter failure of doing it herself

Our daughter is 11 and at 4 yo she was diagnosed, along with a list of specifics, moderate (level 2?) ASD. Are you available for specific questions via email or messenger? Recently we were made aware of Gestalt and noticed for a few years she's had trouble with pronouncing R (she says the word out the side of her mouth vs forward)

Needless to say, as someone who is autistic, I find the term “virtual autism” to be offensive. It's confusing and promotes negative stereotypes about autism. Call it what it is, excessive screen time disorder, or screen addiction, or just bad parenting. They're all technically accurate names for it.

These short videos are very informative. Two things which worked for me is that holding hands n making the child listen to me if I m being ignored twice n secondly, ensuring that the child sees me as a giver instead of a task manager.
