After finishing s2, i got the post-show blues, but your videos were such a joy to go through. You made so many insightful comments and had great pickups, for example, analysing small but wonderful details in the music and costumes. i felt like i was watching the season again with fresh eyes. Speaking of "the Great Sevraine" - my last name is Syverain! Had to look up the back story for this character and it's as if AR was writing about ME - law-defying beauty in more ways than one! Also, my family is from Haiti a former French colony and I am CONVINCED AMC+'s Louis de Pointe du Lac's roots originate from Haiti as well and his family probably absconded from Haiti during the Haitian Revolution (1791-1804) as many with French white ancestry may have tried to do if they could on that fateful first night of freedom and headed straight for NOLA (Ava DuVernay found out her relatives did on the PBS show, "Finding Your Roots"). The reason I think so is because one popular motto of the Haitian Revolution was "Koupe la tèt, boule la kay" which roughly translates to Season 2 Episode 8 aka, "Cut off the head, burn the house!" and when it comes to taking heads and burning down the house, sing it with me: NOBODY DOES IT BETTER.... THAN LOUIS DE POINTE DU LAC!!!!! So #gooblegobble #oneofus (fun fact: when the Haitians beat Napoleon, he sold Thomas Jefferson the Louisiana Purchase (you're welcome, America!) with a very petty caveat attached: neva eva eva eva EVA help those Haitian rascals - and I do mean eva. Haiti ended up paying France reparations for the loss of slaves (!) property and residual business the slaves would have generated (sugar, rum, coffee - yes, a few of all of our favorite things!) - - Haiti finished paying the reperations in the 1950s... 👀 The more you know! 🏳‍🌈🌈
