This is a great video, thank you for doing this. Really enjoy the humor and graphics. Virtually all my windows need the balance replaced. A window company wanted $10k to do them all, can't believe it's this simple and SO glad I watched this video and didn't hire them.

How can you by pass a ballast to power an led bulb
@thepiratehandyman22254 сағат бұрын
The following is a good article that explains how to bypass the ballast. It also explains that can use the correct LED bulbs without bypassing the ballast. Personally, I have always made sure to get the correct LEDs for the ballast and have never done the bypass. It might be worth a conversation with someone educated in the process at your local hardware store or lighting store. www.ledmyplace.com/blogs/stories/the-basics-of-ballast-bypass-and-plug-and-play-led-tube-lights#:~:text=It%20is%20not%20necessary%20for,current%20flowing%20in%20the%20light.

Looked easy enough. Bought the parts for $12. Watched other videos that showed the exact same thing. My faucet is still leaking and now somehow I screwed up the hot water knob. Can't turn on the knob to get water. I have to turn the valve underneath on /off now. I created another problem...😊😢
@thepiratehandyman22259 күн бұрын
Aye, matey, that happens! First of all, take the hot water knob apart, and put it back together, taking care to make sure everything is lining up correctly. If it starts working again, but still leaks, then you may need to replace the cartridge. Let me know if this works.

Another issue: I just moved into an older rental house (2007) and the bathtub is backing up with water-drain is plugged up. So I unscrewed the little drain stopper and there was half circle with a hole that seems like you could insert an Allan wrench. But I tried & it did nothing. I’d love to replace this whole drain/stopper thing with one that allows you to easily clean the drain out, also seals better, and one that allows me to add a hair catcher inside of it. (My husband always fixed all these problems but it’s just me now) Help me!
@thepiratehandyman222514 күн бұрын
Hmmm, I've not seen that before. Rather than possibly damaging the piece, I would recommend that you call your landlord and have him send a plumber out to fix it. If you are present when the plumber is there, that would be a great opportunity to ask him about a replacement stopper with a hair-catcher.

Followed your instructions-it worked!!! FYI, when I went to Lowe’s the guy needed to know what brand faucet I have since certain kits are made for certain faucets. (Mine is Delta) Worked like a charm!

Why did you not thread the new ballast wires into the end lamp "socket"? In other words, remove the red and blue wires from the end lamp socket and connect the new ballast wires directly to the socket?
@thepiratehandyman222517 күн бұрын
Good question! In thepast, I've had issues with not having enough slack, so I always use the wire nuts. Plus, it makes for easier/quicker replacement.

When the wire nuts are removed from the old ballast, good practice is to clip the twisted ends of the wires and then strip them so that they have straight bare ends that are about the same length as the straight stripped ends of the wires from the new ballast. Then twist the wire nut until there are a few turns of the insulated wire just behind the wire nut. You want to do this so that the spring in the wire nut twists together the bare ends inside. This is especially important for the black and white lines where you're tying together three conductors. One of the common causes of failures and even fires is arcing inside the wire nut because the conductors are not fully twisted together.

Nice solution. I have a flymo 460 sde that broke its handle. Its a really bad design with a heavy mower. 2 side arms attached to the deck with resin discs that attach them to a 1 piece handle . I think the design was made so you can lift the mower by lifting the handle up, pivoting the mower around the front wheels. You cannot push the handle down to pivot it on the back wheels lifting the front. The resin discs are adapted for a curved handle end. It was designed to fail.

how do you know if it is the ballast or if its the little tombstones?
@thepiratehandyman2225Ай бұрын
Generally, when the ballast is going out, it takes more than one "flip of the switch" to get the light to come on, and it gets worse over time, until it simple won't come on. If it's the "tombstones," they usually lose their connection very quickly, and no amount of switch-flipping will get the light to come on.
