I have a 1996 4WD Hijet and love it but if I needed a bigger truck for hauling heavy loads, I'd import a 4WD HiAce, etc. Diesel would be a big plus for me. You mentioned good fuel economy. MPG? I'm trying to talk a friend who's a chimney sweep into buying a HiAce or similar. The fire trucks are low mileage, well maintained and red is a better chimney sweep color.

@@jaxsawjeff - I get 31 MPG in my little Hijet... although that's gasoline with 10% ethanol. I use the Hijet as a half ton pickup despite the 350 kg (770 pound) Daihatsu conservative load rating. I've seen others use a Hijet as a one ton pickup for crawling around the yard with a load of rocks and dirt. The HiAce can haul a ton no sweat and is probably a 2 ton pickup if you aren't going to hit potholes at 60 MPH.

@@jaxsawjeff - My Hijet needs a water pump so I might as well install a new timing belt at the same time. I have a lot of upgrade parts that are purchased that still need to be installed - Yokohama GeoLander tires, double DIN Android stereo, seat cushions and upholstery, LED auxiliary lighting, etc. I did manage to Monstaliner truck bed paint the exterior last fall. It's a nice medium gray. I need to roll the other gallon in the wheel wells (when installing the new tires) and interior (when reupholstering seats and installing electronics).

@@Liberty4Ever do you have a chance to use ethanol free… It has increased the lifespan of my engines considerably due to the refined corn not breaking down stuff

Try driving a firetruck version with ultra low mileage!! Your rear window is stock and they removed it on my version which is the newer version (‘96). Not all of them have the dual batteries either. I’m with you though, was driving kei’s and now the HiAce. Nice to bring people along with me and not have to worry about the laws changing. If you bump up your tire size and torque the front torsion bars, you’ll get her to 70mph! I have the upgraded 2.8 liter and while it’s still not a rocket, it moves along well! Great video!

Haven’t had the need to replace anything… I did get some brake lines replaced, but they were easy enough with off the shelf brake lines… A lot of things on these you can fix and not have to use original parts… But if you’re a purist and want to there are several high ace suppliers in the states

Still don’t really get why it has to be 25 years…wouldn’t something like 5 to 10 years be sufficient to protect the „new car market“?🤔
@jaxsawjeff
@jaxsawjeff 3 ай бұрын
I think the 25 year part of it was negotiated by you guessed it lawyers of the affected automobile makers in Europe… I guess you could say it just made it so at the time the cars that you were importing 25 years prior were not as up-to-date as what the people would have normally wanted… Just what I surmised from some information, cheers
