My Dad was the same way, his boats were always meticulous...I think he got that from growing up by the San Diego Consolidated Aircraft Factory sign "Nothing Short of Right is Right" Both my Dad's parents and my Mom's Dad worked there from '37 on...I would offer a suggestion thought, Make larger epoxy plugs by drilling 1/2" holes to allow better cleaning out of the balsa wood, then the epoxy will be easier to fill to the top! I would even go so far as drilling and tapping the anchor screws.

I know in the video you say you full fuse for 10 minutes but the squares/circles don't look full fused but more tacked or contour fused - do you have any idea what temp the kiln reaches in the 10 minutes on?
@KathyFitz1113
@KathyFitz1113 Ай бұрын
You’re right it is slightly less than a full fuse, which that kiln reaches at 12 minutes. I found the full fuse was actually too hot. When they are later flattened some cracked. After the 10 minute fuse they all flattened beautifully. I’m not sure of the temperature. That kiln takes a lot of guess and check to get good results so I only use it for a few things.

This is THE WORST experience I have ever had with a company. The first delivery of the “swing” did not have ANY hardware included. It took 2 weeks to get me the hardware kit, oh wait HALF OF THE HARDWARE KIT. Yeah just a few bolt and one eye bolt, 4” piece of chain, basically junk. I asked for an RA number. BTW, there is never a response from the “customer service”. They will not take returns. Sent me another hardware kit. Directions are not legible, with no pictures to refer to even though we are directed to refer to a picture. I did find there history with the BBB in Spring Hill TN. This is an awful company. I can hardly wait for the Cincinnati boat show this year. If they are there, I will make sure NO ONE even comes to there exhibit. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY. You’ve been warned.

What kiln do you use as your craft kiln?
@KathyFitz1113
@KathyFitz1113 2 ай бұрын
I have the Fuseworks craft kiln. It doesn’t have a temperature control. it’s either on or off, so you control the level with the amount of time it’s on. It’s great for frit balls and cabochons, and fires very quickly, so I kept it when I upgraded to the Caldera. It’s also surprisingly durable. I’ve had it for 3 years and fired it 71 times!

@@KathyFitz1113 I am on my third Fuseworks. The timers keep losing the ability to return to zero and ding. They replaced the first one free of charge. The second kiln wasn't level, and my glass spewed over the bottom of the kiln. That one is going to the dump. With the third one, I am treating it with more care and letting it cool for longer between batches. I love it, which is why I keep buying it.

The holes form where the frit is too thinly applied. My frit layer was thick in some areas and too thin in others so I ended up with holes in the piece. I was lucky because it worked really well with the undersea theme, but it’s not what I had planned.

Thank you for this video. I recently tried this product and was not super pleased. The shrinkage was so much more than freeze and fuse. The firing phase really smelled, even with the air purifier on. I will try again but not for the little parts because of the shrinkage.

@KathyFitz1113 2 ай бұрын
You’re welcome. I’m glad you enjoyed it. I found there was less shrinkage with the cooler firing temperature than the hotter one, but I agree, it’s definitely way more than with freeze and fuse. The smell was dreadful! I opened the window while it was firing and that really helped. My favorite part was how sturdy the pieces are at every stage. Even the most delicate things are easy to unmold, and I love that you can fix/ modify before firing.
