Ethel was capable of singing pure without that extra vibrato she usually added and she sounds amazing

They didn’t have head set mics back then, singers had to project really loud in order to be heard. These two are brilliant

I sure do miss the weekly variety shows. We haven’t had them since the 70s, and I sure wish they would bring them back. But wait, there’s no real talent anymore. Most of the great talent has died, what a shame!!

Cole Porter + rock and roll does not equal a good song. And what was choreographer Eugene Loring thinking of.?Half the time the male dancers ( Including Fred Astaire!) Wind up on the floor and the female dancers do very little. 3:28

Looking at all the video from the 1960's, It is truly amazing at how varied JG's performances can be. Sometimes at the top of her game and many times sounding frail and old. A great voice that was ruined by hard living, but always loved by her fans. Ethel Merman was the voice that could be heard in the back row without amplification, cast in the right parts, she was amazing.

Wow, she was 4’11” and even when she takes her heels off she looks taller than he does.

If Judy were alive today people would love her, and she’s so damn tiny and has a such a great figure, I hate those bastards for making her take diet pills. And messing her metabolism up, I think it caused depression and possible thyroid issues which screws majorly with your whole system. Thyroid and parathyroid anxiety sucks. I had thyroid and laryngeal cancer so I’m going through it right now. And I lost my damn vocal cord, but I’m still singing pretty good, but having issues sustaining the breath I need. I am thinking about letting them stick a huge needle through my throat with no pain medicine or anesthesia. You forget how important your voice is, til you lose it. I always worried about my eyes and ears and limbs and I use my voice for everything. So I was blown away when I was ignored when it went hoarse and I was choking so bad I thought I would die. Then I have had major complications because of the damn thyroid hormones and lack of calcium potassium and electrolytes, get your thyroid checked thoroughly cause losing all that stuff is rough. And you need your electrolytes balanced and the parathyroids, I lost 2 maybe 3. So I crashed and had a heart attack and stroke because of lack of being able to produce calcium. It’s like sci fi symptoms. A lot of women and men walk around with this at all ages. So it can mess you up if you don’t pay attention to the signs, if you feel major anxiety and depression you never had, gain or lose a lot of weight, are hoarse and choking, make sure you go to dr, also some people’s eyes will protrude. Thyroid messes with everything in the body and causes eye issues too. I hate Judy had her natural metabolism and brain chemistry messed with, that affects the body too doing those harsh starvation diets.

Barbra seemed to enjoy performing with Judy but the best part is we have this wonderful clip to enjoy. I saw it when originally broadcast as mom never missed this show and she'd let me stay up to watch it, even on a school night, smart mom.
