Thanks for this. Color has always been a mystery. After watching just this one video, I was able to make a stupid simple (less than a minute) change to a piece I was working on that made it work so much better.

Why CSP can't do it? I mean, CSP EX 3.0 (the Pro has some limitations in CMYK, I believe that it merges all into one layer, while the EX can export CMYK layers... and some other limitation in the Pro that I can't remember). I thought it supported it entirely (as a merged layer, like here)... I think it was mentioned something about the "res"... To be honest, I've never done it in CSP, as I usually do all my CMYK exports from Affinity Photo (importing an RGB file into it) , Designer, or from PhotoLine (occasionally, even from Krita). Although I know the old ways in Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. I prefer to use "convert to profile" (or PDF/X-4 in RGB if their RIP does a better conversion to cmyk), but I currently work as an illustrator, not as a comic artist.

@colorwithkurt 12 күн бұрын
I didn't say that CSP can't. It absolutely can, but there is a noticeable difference in the colors vs Photoshop bc the color profiles are not the same as PS... Especially in the reds and darker values.

@@colorwithkurt In CSP I noticed some time ago that I need to set always the preview mode as 'Adobe RGB' with files that were saved in Photoshop, in which the RGB mode is often 'Adobe RGB' (richer gamut) by default. The thing is that CSP always works by default as sRGB (sth similar to paintshop pro). That could explain that... Or not, if you are referring comparing the cmyk modes (with same profiles), but the issue could be similar: I mean, CSP really needs in 'View 'menu, then at the bottom 'Color Profile', then 'Preview Settings'. And then setting there "Adobe RGB". Unless the problem is the inverse and you were actually using sRGB in Photoshop and CSP is defaulting to Adobe RGB (I doubt it). Also, I set it in that same color profile settings window "Save in canvas" as marked. Otherwise you gotta do it every time you open that file. But the file needs to be saved to keep this default. Also, super important, one won't see the image in the right RGB (or CMYK) profile unless also in View/Color Profile/ select there "Preview", so that it actually is "displaying" the image considering the color profile Adobe RGB, to show the colors properly (or same thing if doing it all with a CMYK profile). That is, in CSP for the colors displayed on screen, in RGB, to work with the Adobe RGB color profile as it usually defaults in Photoshop, one has to be in this kind of "proof" (preview) mode. Otherwise CSP defaults to what it prefers: sRGB. And then many tones show different. But maybe you know all this. It's just that the "reds and darker values" problem reminds me a crazy lot of an issue I had until I understood how CSP deals with RGB color profiles (not very standard...). But again, maybe it's another issue. It was a nightmare for me until I discovered this, but now I work the same (using Adobe RGB or sRGB, as you can set any, or a CMYK profile) in CSP, Affinity (and Photoshop, if I'd still used that). In CMYK. like in RGB , it's also needed to have marked that "Preview" thing, after selecting the specific CMYK profile. And the "save to canvas" setting in View/Color profile settings always marked, and saving just after doing all this, at the beginning of the project. Again, a gazillion apologies if you knew all this already.

So where do I go to subscribe to your KZfaq channel?! :) Or would you mind if I made a video based heavily on this information! That was the missing part for me...the wrong RGB profile!

@3polygons 12 күн бұрын
@@colorwithkurt Hehe, I don't have a channel... I wish I'd have one! :D. Maybe soon... Yes, totally, feel free to make a video about it if you feel in the mood for it and is convenient for you :). It is indeed a good idea, as I can imagine a good number of artists not knowing this. I only found out when seeing greens and other tones not really matching with Affinity, despite being the same HEX color and all (and my monitor is wide gamut, an Eizo, can display the Adobe RGB profile entirely, so it was driving me crazy). :D It was kind of difficult to discover the why, so I think it's a very good idea for a video. To answer the question/search "Why my colors look different in Clip Studio". Or whatever you can think of. No idea how people with this problem are searching it in KZfaq, with which "words". :D And if you don't finally make it, glad that it solved the little issue for your own use. :) Clip Studio have these things... but I love it. :D

Hey Kurt. I somehow just stumbled upon your channel and this is the first video of yours that I'm watching. 9 minutes in, and I am already significantly more intelligent than before. I am a professional musician for motion pictures and media. The principle of contrast you mention in this video (using the rubber band analogy) is exactly what any well orchestrated/arranged piece of music would incorporate as well. I'm a sucker for such analogies, and am always on a lookout for other arts/artists' works to find inspiration from. Such a brilliant content, my friend! Subscribed!

I just move the boxes around until they snap together. You can resize them by the edges, turn them off and on from the menu in CSP. I'd have to search for more than that. There's not much to it. It was a convenience feature.

i was excited to learn about a new colour scheme but the answer turned out to be "use greys". all jokes aside this is very helpful especially the part about how shadows take on the colour of secondary light sources. it never occurred to me that the blue sky is an ambieant light source because the sun is... the sun.
