I know you will love this MG-MIDGET! I owned 2 Midgets. I loved the mustered color so much that I chose that color for both of my Midgets. My first MG-MIDGET was a chrome bummer 1072 model. My second Midget was the 1974 rubber bumper model like yours, except mine was the burnt orange color. I'm in my 70's and miss my carefree days of my 20's and my brand new MG-MIDGETS.

Hello sir, I have a question, to remove the manual transmission of a Toyota Tercel 4wd, do I also have to remove the engine? I want to change the transmission on my Tercel 4wd and the mechanic tells me that he has to remove the engine in order to remove the transmission. I want to know if this is correct?
@BeardedWrencher
@BeardedWrencher 5 күн бұрын
@JuanAlonzso it is not technically true. The transmissions can be removed by removing both CV shafts, the rear driveshaft, both diff brackets on the engine and the transmission mount. I will say this, although it is possible to remove the transmission without the engine, it is fairly difficult to do. If I was your mechanic, it would be my preference to remove both at the same time as well. It will be significantly easier to resurface the flywheel, replace the clutch, replace engine gaskets, etc. Just as a heads up, new flywheels do not exist for these cars, you will have to have yours resurfaced if necessary. The 1987 Tercel on RockAuto shows a flywheel but those are for the 3rd gen and will not that. Same with new 4wd transmission mounts. Some sell modified 2wd transmission mounts on eBay that are a great alternative.

Nice! I have a '77 Midget I rescued from a friend's garage. I wonder if you still have the factory electronic ignition, those were notoriously unreliable. It failed for the previous owner of my car, and I replaced it with a Pertronix when I resurrected it.

What I do know from having one of these cars and having gone through a similar flooded situation is that he is likely in first gear with his foot all the way to the floor. That engine is doing 123% duty to get through the bog. However, it WILL make it.

thanks for this. So, a question: how did you manage to get to that lower nut? I can't for the life of me figure out how to get to it when i can't see it at all. I also couldn't see where you put the RTV - on the block after the gasket is put on or before? Thanks. I'm poor, old, female, and trying to do this myself. I have such great appreciation for mechanics now. You have to be part contortionist, and strong. I am neither.

I have Toyota to sell 1983 overheat what should I check?
@BeardedWrencher
@BeardedWrencher Ай бұрын
@@DaraRos-z3o is the thermostat opening up? Is the radiator fan working? I'd start by when the car starts overheating, verify if the lower radiator hose is getting warm. If it's cold, the thermostat is stuck. Also disconnect the connection on the radiator and verify the fan turns on. It should constantly run without the connection on. If it doesn't, the radiator fan or relay is bad.

Another great vid...you guys have so much fun working on these cars together. Awesome to see that little 3A torn down and going back in. (LOVE the new 3A sticker). I've done my timing belt and water pump and cooling system refresh as well as a new clutch/flywheel machining back in 2014/15. (When I got the car, you could not let the clutch out without the whole drivetrain lurching like wild...it was way overdue to be done). I did not have the head off though so very interesting to see this teardown. I have a 6k pound scissor lift in my shop and I raised the car up....went out and cut five solid oak logs about 3.5 feet long and 18in dia., V-notched them with the chainsaw for the tires and dropped the car on them so I could drop the lift back to the floor and then dropped the tranny from below using a motorcycle lift sitting on a 5th log underneath. Def was some Houdini work but it worked quit well. Getting the input shaft of the trans back aligned with pilot bearing and such was a bit of a PITA, but finally got it after some angle adjustments with the tranny and some strap work. Seeing you do it with the engine out and back in was neat! GREAT vid!

That first bit looks a lot more like Yankee Boy Basin...weird. Most of Imogene from Telluride to the top, the drop-offs are on the passenger side. Are you starting in Ouray?
@BeardedWrencher
@BeardedWrencher Ай бұрын
We started and ended in Ouray. From the photo geotags, we started on Camp Bird Road by Ouray Ice Park Office and ended up unintentionally on a slightly shorter route back. Which was probably for the best because some of the spots we took would have been difficult to climb back up.
