Swam a good mile to get to the rock back in '72 to '83. Still good with a sand bank in between in '87. Now...that's a stone's throw away. Several miles to the right and north, was a nice hide-a-way cove with a steep 50 yard sand dune and beach. A stop at Bull Frog with 2 five gallon cans got you to Paiute Farms and back-everyone had to swim at least 3 miles and dive the Rainbow Bridge and cliffs on the trip-those were the days. We had more fun than anyone would ever know. We are all now 70 years old. How time passes so fast!

It's called Solar Cycles, and remember. Two years ago a submerged volcano in Honga Tonga popped and put over 10% more water vapor into the stratosphere.

When I live there in the mid 1970s, water was all the way to the top of the bathtub ring still looks to be 50 or 60 foot low on Lone Rock.

Woohoo, we'll take it downstream! Great footage👍 Thanks for taking the time to get out there and capture the events. It's been brutally hot too! I like the naming "Cool Flow Release" also. So it's no "High Flow Release" but they just left the damaged ones offline and sent it!

Great footage, Lord Rat. I, for one, appreciate the effort you put into this stuff 👍 Yeah, Powell is on the cusp now and just beginning to drop so all you folks should get down there and enjoy it while it lasts! Castle Rock Cut, theoretically, has seven feet of water in it but that won't last long.

Great content! I wish that they would keep the water level at least above 3583' to keep the Castle Rock Cut open (minimum safe level). It would benefit all! Just think about how much gas it would save with every houseboat and boat not having to go the long route past Antelope Marina! I'm a local her and am always monitoring the water level based on the Castle Rock Cut.

@@rickkrebsbach9278 for real! A lot of people are upset about the Cool Flow Right now. The cut is only up I think a couple of feet and by the end of the month or beginning of August it might be closed

@rickkrebsbach9278 18 күн бұрын
@@DesertRatExploration As of today, it's 4.13' above the minimum safe level of 3583' which puts it at 3587.13'. If you google 'Lake Powell Water Database' and click on it, then scroll down it lists all of the significant points on the lake. I agree, that the recent cool flow release will probably impact it even more.

I used to live in Kanab Utah, which is just north of Fredonia Arizona. The Mormon ranchers in that area bitch and moan and complain about the federal government while continuing to graze their cattle on public lands for pennies on the dollar. I call them welfare ranchers. They did the same whining, complaining and beating their chests when the grand staircase/Escalante monument was established back in the 1990s. That has brought so much tourism to the area. Now they aren’t whining anymore.

Powell lovers will not like that the timing of this experiment coincides with the timing of the lake levels reaching their max for the year. Antelope Point Public Launch Ramp was flirting with sufficient depth to launch boats again. Lots of people have been looking forward to using that ramp again. But even if it was to be opened this year, it would have been usable for only a week at best, if at all. The ramp has become a happening spot for paddle sports launch in the past 4 or more years of the ramp's closure.

We saw this happen here at Lake Mead in Boulder Harbor too. It was such a popular locals launch through early 2010's, but then NPS had to close the ramp because the channel became narrow. Boat owners were upset but once this happened it became the best paddlecraft launch at the lake. Now unfortunately the level has dropped and the inlet has dried up again, can't even get the kayaks out. I have a random question for you... is there an equivalent of "eFoilLakeMead" down here Mead??? 🤔 Those things are pretty neat, I haven't seen one on Lake Mead before myself yet.
