Thanks soo much for this well done & extremely detailed video. I've learned a lot considering am a Chelseafc fan from #kenya in Africa 🇰🇪🌍. I've subscribed and turned on the notification. Kindly do such kind a video as to how Chelseafc owners and board members identified Tony Bloom's long term way of making a club sustainable and being successful differently. Koz from De Zerbi's appointment that's the way they're going to go forward. Koz i feel the big money spending was to catch up to brightons ways as still trying to maintain Chelsea's standards. After RDZ acquisition, they'll be more reasonable i believe. #respect to you

As a Toon fan it makes more sense to play the Old Firm than smaller clubs in the South, but it aint going to happen. Old firm would be too much of a threat. They are on a global par with ManU and Liverpool. Not like having Swansea, Cardiff or Wrexham

I'd love to see a video on a Scandinavian league. Perhaps even a "Latin" league with Spain, Portugal, Italy, and France could happen - to challenge the Premier League? Austria and Switzerland could join the German league... Also Poland, Ukraine, Czechia, Slovakia would make sense.

Yes Scandanavia is on the list, that will be interesting to get in to the details of that. I had considered ESP/POR but not an entire Latin League... I will give it some thought. As mentioned in another comment below I was planning US/Mex next but that may change - the allure of Europe may be too much!

You talk of the need for Dutch and Belgian buy-in from the fans, and the rich football tradition they have, so do you really think they’d accept going from the Eredivisie to playing u-23 English teams in the 2nd division? I doubt it. Even though the clubs didn’t ultimately vote for the BeneLiga last time, a deal is never dead. It may well be that if they tweak the deal enough, it’s back on the table. And is there not some sort of scenario where the biggest clubs in Belgium and Holland just say “we want to increase our revenue and be more competitive in Europe” and just break away from their respective leagues, a la the Premier League?
@ballboy1982
@ballboy1982 3 ай бұрын
Yes, good points that does cause doubt in what is put forward here (I grappled with it a fair bit). The reasoning really is, if the Belgian clubs are willing to sell to 'bigger' clubs, is this already a detriment to their tradition and league structure? To survive and prosper in the modern game (and for what is coming down the road) this may be a way of getting something more than just cash from those deals and increases its interest abroad. Whether or not fans would see EPL U23's in div 2 as an insult, it's hard to say - we may soon find out in the comments! Thanks a lot for your interest and feedback, it's much appreciated.

@@ballboy1982It’s interesting to think about how competitive a Dutch-Belgian league could be, because adding the populations of both countries, you get 27 million, which is half that of England and a third of Germany, but as you say as football nations they individually punch above their weight. But still the population and size of market will be half of England, which is important because the success of your league is mainly determined by the size of your country’s population. It’s also worth considering that with the dominance of the Premier League only set to increase, the need and desire for cross-border leagues as a solution is only going to increase. Which other cross-border leagues will you be covering? The Baltic League I think could well be possible. I also think the big Portuguese clubs should join the Spanish league, but there’s loads of mergers I think can make European football a lot more interesting

@@thomasjohnson2862 There were a few that stood out in my initial research, the next I was planning is US/Mex but that may change. Really interesting you mention ESP/POR, I had a similar thought. @@ballboy1982 La Liga is well known yes, but it’s no secret that Real Madrid and Barcelona are pretty concerned about the current direction of travel as the Premier League increasingly leaves everyone else behind - hence their strong support for European Super League. You can see how this could be a marriage of convenience for both 🇪🇸 and 🇵🇹. Admitting the likes of Porto, Benfica, Sporting and Braga to the league would provide some exciting games. Also there’s the fact that the Portuguese league is completely unbalanced, as there’s a chasm between the aforementioned big 4 and everyone else. Also, Portugal is basically in the same position as Belgium and Netherlands - it’s a great football nation punching above its weight, with a modest population size of 10 million.

Great video. I liked the argument about investment in the Scottish teams, that a potential pathway to a UK top flight would provide much greater incentive to invest in Scottish football. Sooner or later someone is going to establish a cross-border league somewhere - it might be the Baltic countries, Belgium and Netherlands, or someone else - and then the process here may accelerate.

@@ballboy1982 I really want to see the smaller nations from Europe do it. If you're a country of 2-5m people, or even a country of 10-20m people like Portugal or Netherlands, you've got no chance of sustaining a competitive domestic league against the likes of England or Spain or Germany with far bigger populations. Because the biggest disadvantage for these clubs is the size of their populations, a cross-border league is inevitable sooner or later.

I wonder if this might be a good idea for UEFA to put in regulations for all its members. Limiting agents number pf clients and only slloeing double representation is a good thing. I can understand that a selling club might hire an agent contracted to their player to shift them on, but these arrangements make clubs unstable, Manchester United is a good example of this.

I dont think it is possible to keep majority of people happy if they were joined and how it happened. Also the distance between say, Southampton or Bournemouth to a Scottish team is extreme, especially in harsher winter weathers. Add the Irish and Northern Irish teams like I see lots saying, that would require even more difficult traveling problems.

This will NEVER happen, mainly for two reasons: Reason 1: to join the ENGLISH Premier League, SCOTTISH clubs would have to leave the Scootish FA & then be (somehow) amalgamated into (& NOW) the FA. That is not only much easier said than done, but once done (if at all possible), there can be no turning back. Reason 2: bearing in mind the words "there can be no turning back", the major concern must be Glasgow Rangers & Celtic. I believe i'd be correct in also adding Hibernian & Hearts. Those clubs aren't JUST about football. Therefore, adding those clubs (certainly Rangers & Celtic) & to the English game, would & overnight NOW mean the FA & (eventually) English Premier League have not only NOW added an extremely potent political & religious aspect to it's "beautiful" game. But from there, it is NOW an excuse for hoards of Scottish people to travel South of their boarder, with NO interest in football, to get drunk & smash up English towns & cities, simply because they don't like the English. The following week, it is NOW an excuse for hoards of English people, with NO interest in football to travel North of their boarder, to.get drunk & smash up Scottish towns & cities because they don't like the Scottish. In regards to reason no.2, I sincerely hate to talk like that. But lets be realistic & for the love of God, not naive. That is why Scottish clubs (especially those mentioned) can't join the FA & from there, the English Premier League. Once again, when/if it ever did happen, they're can be NO turning back. PS: If you THINK I'm talking rubbish or exaggerating, just cast your mind(s) back when Glasgow Rangers were in Manchester for 2008 UEFA Cup final against FC Zenit Saint Petersburg. That's the new reality, week in, week out across English & Scottish towns & Cities. Please also seriously consider & acknowledge the fact that Manchester isn't exactly a soft place OR "a playground", as if it were. Seriously sleep on it before entertaining that idea, worst still, actual move because if there was ever a "pandora's box" NOT to be opened & in the footballing world, that's the one you're currently thumbling around with the lock & key to pal.

The SFA (Scottish FA are concerned enough not to get involved with the GB Olympic team, for both men & women and Paralympics. Btw at the beginnings of Assocation football, there was a British cup, and the top Scottish teams were far superior to the English teams in general. Of course, with time, England caught up.
