Really nice console. I sure would like to try one out one day. Mixing in the box is fine but I really would like to have a nice console.

I was 13 yrs of age when I first heard Brother Sam Cooke. That year of 1963 I 1st heard "Change gonna Come" plus the 2nd time while in foster care; I heard 2st time on a small radio in Houston Texas. Jesus opened my heart to a much needed change. The anglo to person hanging us label Negro person in trees or high way bridges in Temple Houston Pasadena etc. I 😢😢and😢. So I see change but now those changes have no kindness toward noting...😢 Maybe old folks like me will to continue to pray sing forgive and witness to others. Sam did his part like Michael. What an enlightening conversation! Roger is as humble here as he is talented. How refreshing to see an artist deflect compliments and instead point them to the other collaborators and influences.

one thing i wish people would do when they A/B is not announce it during while hitting bypass.. kinda of takes away hearing the difference, its not a huge change so it kinda clouds it a bit

Beautiful. Shout out to Jeff Beck on this one. It was Jeff's DRUMMING that inspired the song.....can you believe? You can find JB's version on BB&A's album.

So impressive and refreshing to see something being built by hand again, so much soul and effort really makes the end product something else! Great tour, would love to go there myself but won't need now since this was a really thorough yet entertaining tour throughout!

I’ve also recorded a live symphony orchestra with only two mics - given the right circumstances this is entirely feasible.

When I was starting, as a vocalist, I was blocked and out of tune unless reverb was put on in my headphones. I do not know if it was recorded with reverb, but I think not. Perhaps there were two channels, and reverb on one od them. Regards, Marek, Poland.

Sabbath/Zeppelin/Purple certainly the trifecta. But others, like myself, would argue that Uriah Heep were right there with them. Like Deep Purple, Heep are still an active studio band and live act.

I'm usually into hard rock, metal, punk...stuff like that. I drove my ol' lady's car to the shop yesterday, after her daughter drove it & the radio was on a hard rock/metal station... almost every song sounded like the same band. Especially the guitars, but really everything. It was so bad. But it reminded me of why I never got into all that stuff & I basically still just put a mic or two in front of an amp & dial in my sound like that. No added effects or anything, unless it's part of whatever I'm actually playing. There are bands & artists who still keep it pretty simple like that, but definitely not enough of them. Literally everything I heard on the radio yesterday may as well just been the same album by the same band. It's ridiculous & sad....

the reason the high boost sounded bad is that a room should have a sloped frequency response. this is because the directivity of the sound is also sloped, so the in room response for a flat sounding speaker is sloped accordingly. tuning for a flat target will actually sound harsh.

Hey Warren, Congrats!… Beautiful console. When it was time to purchase my console, it was between the ASP 4816 and the API BOX console for me. The feature set on the 4816 is the ideal recording and mixing console. I owned a Focusrite 2802 console (later the Audient 2802) both built by Audient, which was actually a smaller footprint of the 4816, so I know what Audient sounds like and they sound awesome. The API has no eqs, busses or routing capabilities as the 4816, it’s basically eight channels of API preamps, eight 500 series slots in the tracking section on the left and 16 channels of summing on the right with a bad ass bus compressor. They’re two different style consoles. I did go with the API and love it, but I’m sure I would not have regretted going with the 4816, cos it’s an amazing sounding console and awesome design. Congrats!

I would do like the Late Al Schmitt and do and AKG C 452 EB on the Top and 57 on the Bottom or my choice would be Audio-Technica ATM 350D or Audio-Technica AE 2300 for Snare.

A touch of "small room" reverb goes a long way to bind a drum machine or samples on a drum bus into a kit. I've been doing that habitually for years. I guess it's effectively doing the same as this suggestion.

I wish you guys wouldn't have rushed and winged this. You can tell you weren't into it, just did it to do it and get it out. You didn't even look at all the choices for "listening area," you chose the first one you ran across which was the wrong one.

I wish I could afford joining the academy. I am so thankful you make free content for people like me. This helps me through a very hard time. From the bottom of my heart - thank you! Great breakdown of this song! I would love it if you did one of the songs from the first Cranberries album- they also really used Delores's voice well- so many overdubs of her vocal which realyl make the record great.

One “rule” I keep in mind is that once you have the rhythm section and the vocal sounding as great as possible, all the other tracks are seasoning to taste. As a guitarist, I love getting all the different amp tones on multiple tracks, but when it comes to the listener, they only hear if the guitar is too loud. Thin then out, pan them, whatever. Unless it’s metal, the electric (and acoustic) guitars are a texture. Who wants to bury a great vocal performance? And sometimes awful tones soloed work in the context of the mix. Fantastic overview on mixing!

I was concerned with luck of live monitoring knob..but now I see that main and headphone have separate control would it mean that I can control bleed from recorded sound vs headphones monitoring input? I am little lost here.. how the live monitoring is dealt here without knob or push button? I know we could use daw I monitoring but this with plugins would create latency…
