When I was practicing every day, I disciplined myself to throw 100 good catches. If I missed, I threw 10 additional good catches without missing, for every miss. My practice, my good catches, using correct body mechanics got very consistent.

Hey…good video. I “liked” it. Every roper swings in a unique way. The swings are similar, but still different in subtle ways. That said, yer swing looks good. But yer slicing the legs( yer loop is going in between the legs). Yep, when ya come out of the box and start yer swing yer tip should be aimed at yer target. But when ya make the corner maybe level yer swing a little more vice swinging from high right to low left. That should eliminate a slice. Not nit picking, just tryin’ to help. Just one more comment. Muscle memory is real important. I think for low number heelers it’s very important to stand on a mounting block or be on yer horse so ya memorize the actual angles yer gonna deal with roping cattle, because those angles are way different from roping on the ground. Just sayin’. Enjoyed the video. I’m subscribed. Much obliged!

1) Spade bits are used with a bosalita, ALWAYS 2) you should never, ever have to put your hands on the reins of a spade bit, they work off pressure by themselves. The bosalita is there for any type of hand signal that may be necessary, spade bits are there to show refinement, they are NOT used. Spades act off gravity in the horses mouth, and are anatomically designed to sit comfortably and be able to be held by the horse. When a horse lifts its head off the vertical the spade applies small amounts of pressure to the roof of the mouth, tongue, and curb strap, MILD amounts of pressure. But Bridle horses (horses trained up to carry a spade) already carry themselves on the vertical. You start a Bridle horse in either a bosal or a snaffle, different trainers do differently. You work up to 100% bosal work, then to a bosalita. By this point, horse is typically 99-100% working off legs and seat ONLY, their riders aren't using the reins at all, and in fact these horses can be ridden bridleless. Once horse is 100% working off seat and leg, then some riders chose to play with the Spade, OVER their bosalita, with the bosalita being there if they ever need to touch the horses face, and spade just there for looks. Spades are basically a show off that your horse is a finished bridle horse. Because a horse that isn't a finished bridle horse will evade the spade by opening their mouth or overflexing because either A) they aren't trained properly or B) their rider is applying rein pressure, which shouldn't be needed. They don't NEED the spade, ever, it is there to show their proof as a bridle horse. Please, learn the history and correct usage of the equipment you are showcasing and using. These are not meant for hands, at all.
