Sometimes simplicity trumps all. I learned through the MKII resurrection the merit of doing things because they make you happy as opposed to everything being so purpose/functionality driven as it's been on the MKIV build. I've seen even my die hard racer friends' priorities shift as time goes on, albeit to a lesser degree. It's my pleasure, thank you for taking the time to join me. That's a hell of a collection you have, almost all of the JDM halo cars. I love those Eagle Summits, they're such cool little vehicles. Funny enough, I found another dream car of mine on Marketplace just after purchasing the Aristo: a 1989 Chevy Caprice, blue on blue, 40k miles, listed for $9k. I momentarily debated scooping it up as well as I'd love to build a lowrider out of a box Caprice or a G-Body Regal, but I realized bringing another car home right now would help neither my bank account nor my rapidly diminishing storage space. Sometimes we have to pick and choose our battles, unfortunately.

@@AlexLindner Yeah man, been slowly chipping away at them as I age. You may remember my MKIV from SF 100 years ago now. But was a completely destroyed yellow NA that my Dad and I rebuilt and I converted to 6speed etc. She's been sitting for a long time waiting on me to get back around to her. Anyways like you, I am out of space now haha. Its funny that you say that, because I'm a big g-body guy as well, and I used to go straight to the magazine section as a kid and look through all the LowRider magazines while the parents shopped. Nobody puts in more work on their cars than the lowrider guys! haha Congrats on the scoop. I know the feeling, because it took me at least 10 years of off and on searching to find my perfect Summit.

Feel free to email me: [email protected] Nobody matches the attention to detail of the lowrider crowd. Even if much of the engraving and mural work isn't really my style, it's impossible to not respect the craftsmanship and artistry that goes into high level builds. I too went to the magazine racks as a kid and oogled at all of the cars which served as inspiration for what I do now in different ways. Thank you very much, I couldn't be happier with the car and look forward to enjoying it for many years to come. I'd love to see photos of your Summit as well.

Absolutely admire your work and attention to detail! Just perfect man. I always wonder how fabricators get their degreed cuts on those 90s and 45s. How do you know what angle to cut the piping and how do you actually cut that angle on the band saw?
@AlexLindner

Thank you for your kind words and support. I'm eyeballing cut lines the majority of the time. Since an exhaust like this isn't a production piece, I'm most concerned with fitting the tubing where it needs to go rather than precisely which angles I'm using. Most of the time I'm cutting these elbows with my angle grinder and flattening the cut sides on my belt sander.

Cool build. The tubular header is primarily for controlling gas flow. The turbo has a "large" moment arm going to the header flange. Adding a stiffening member from v band to the flange may help dampen vibration issues.
@AlexLindner
@AlexLindner 17 күн бұрын
Thank you for your kind words and continued support. I have an idea of how to reinforce the head flange without linking the turbine flange to the head flange. I don't like to do that and limit the header's ability to expand and contract as it heats/cools, respectively.

Im curious how the math works with your jig vs. the jig i made. I'm making a 4 into 1 for a 1g talon. On the first attempt, with scrap material, rotating the tube 90 degrees did not give me a 90 degree cut angle. Due to the splay angle, I had to figure out the correct amount of rotation to get a 90 degree cut angle. Im curious why you dont run into that issue with your jig. Mine sets the tube verticle instead of horizontal. Im trying a 15 degree splay for my R&D. But yea, I'd like to figure out the equation that compensates for splay angle, and number of tubes. At least for a round style flange, not a t3/4/6. It's really funny that you put this video out as im doing this. Thank you for always being so helpful. Idk if you recognize my name, but I comment and like a lot of your videos. I've been studying your manifold videos off and on for a couple of years. Your red demon manifold build last year actually helped me decide on the jmf 4g63 flange. I was not super pleased with the vibrant one that I got initially. Even though I was planning on going to Morrison route and form the tubes instead of going with the oval to round transition in the flange. The jmf flange checked all the other boxes.
@AlexLindner
@AlexLindner Ай бұрын
My cutting fixture typically requires an additional 5° added to the base rotation. Using your 4-1 collector as an example, I cut at 95° as opposed to 90° to achieve proper fitment. It takes some experimentation to figure out, but it's just the way it goes. I don't know of a formula to figure out this discrepancy and elected to practice cutting with PVC initially to figure it out. It's my pleasure, I'm happy to put the information out there. I do recall going back and forth with you in the comments before. I'm glad to hear that you went with a JMF flange - they're high quality pieces. Nice materials generally aren't cheap, but they're game changers to increase the quality of your end product.

What is the strategy for welding the last tubes if you don't have space....thanks 🇧🇷
@AlexLindner
@AlexLindner Ай бұрын
As I'm building the header, I take two angles of attack for final welds. 1.) Try to run the primaries such that you leave a "pocket" to fit the torch into for the final welds. 2.) Be strategic as to when I'm adding each primary to the assembly. It isn't a perfect science and I still run into challenges occasionally. However, applying these two strategies help to eliminate the bulk of the issues.

If i heard you correctly, you weld on the inside as well, which was why you didn't do a from debuting. If so, how do you handle purging the "outside" when you do that?
@AlexLindner
@AlexLindner Ай бұрын
You did hear correctly, and thank you for a good question. I don't do anything to purge the outside of the collector, but rather apply as little heat as possible while doing these internal welds. Remember, the goals are solely to smooth and fuse these internal seams, not get penetration. In this instance, I pulsed the internal welds with my machine set at 70A to avoid disturbing the coloration on the collector's exterior as much as possible. Some disturbance is inevitable, but you shouldn't be applying so much heat that the outside of the collector loses all of its color.
