What strikes me is how unworldly the so-called elite products of our famous public schools are. I think that most youngsters well below the ages of these young men would have thought it a bit rum to be so savagely beaten for just having a wank. As a product of one of these institutions (also run on strongly religious lines) I was something of a rebel who never bought in to the system at the time but I remember how easy it was to get brainwashed by the whole grandiose and religious nature of these places. The Independent Inquiry Into Child Sex Abuse, when summarising its findings a couple of years ago, said: "Children in residential schools are particularly vulnerable to sexual abuse as a result of their isolation from their families and carers and the involvement of staff in their intimate personal care." I am a member of Boarding School Action who believes that they should be closed down.
