I have a blind Appaloosa and I’m following your videos closely with Blink. How do you stop him from bashing into things ? Did you put up bells or something noisy ? Also do you have a sound you say or do when approaching ?

HI Joanne! This is an old channel, I am so sorry it took so long to respond. Please look into The Blind Horse Project, my journey with Blink has now gotten so much bigger and we have a whole community waiting to help other blind horse owners just like you!

I've recently taken over the care of a blind horse. This is a horse I had previously and I know her previously to her blindness. She is very responsive to our verbal cues but I would welcome any feedback from another blind horse owner. Thank you for your response.

My gorgeous leopard Appaloosa is fast going blind. She is in a herd of three, and her living space is generous, uncluttered with objects. It’s on even ground. I keep everything in the same location. Like where I park the wheelbarrow. She was getting a bit bored because we had stopped our daily rides and such. I’ve begun “liberty training “ with a clicker. Plenty on KZfaq about those. It’s giving her interesting experiences and keeping her more active. The clicker gives you a way to send cues, normally you would do with your body language. It’s something to add quality and interest to the blind horse, who often loses herd status, and it’s easy to get a bit ignored.
