I think you're right, I'm having this problem now and that's the sound when the engine light comes on. No way I'd go thru this much trouble and not just replace the EGR Valve.

Eh depends on the replacement part had to replace water pump until I found out the water pumps they sell us are chinese made pieces of shit made to look like american made... Quality parts equals better reliability

Aaron C , Yeah that code sounds about right. like i told chad, the cleaning took the error off for a few months before it came back. I replaced it, but the code would not clear. the way the harness wires were smashed, made me think that it was actually an electrical failure to the new egr. i also found evidence of rodents getting into the sponge under the upper manifold. probably trying to stay warm in the fall / winter. who knows what else they chewed. If you dont mind tight working spaces and have patience, cleaning it might clear the code. if you dont have patience, then replacing it right away might be the way to go. the 11 year mark, 120000 miles, seems to have yeilded the most problems for this vehicle all at once. here is a list of issues that i had to deal with last year: wheel bearing died, shifting mechanism failure, power window failure, egr valve error code, clear coat is completely burnt through on roof, windshield sprayer tubes wore out, spyder LED tail light electronics died (cant just replace the bulb), old airbag recalls, ect. i finally traded it in, before my cost in repairs reached past its value.

I cleaned it on July 1st and the light stayed off until the beginning of december. I'm getting the same code, so I'm just going to replace the EGR when winter ends. they are about $60 - $70 at autozone.

My check engine light does not go off when I disconnect my battery.
