"Crazy old like sony like handycam like things..." excuse me while I shrivel up and die. Also, Gareth was NOT shooting on a "handycam". It was the Sony EX3 (part of sonys ENG line of cameras) with a Letus35mm converter. This was our way of getting that cinematic look before the 5D Mark II came on the scene and really changed the game for low budget filmmakers.

One big obstacle that gets in the way of the Apple Vision Pro being a substitute for a trip to the movies: weight. Far more comfortable to watch a movie for 2 hours without something as heavy as the Vision Pro. If there was a way to have the Vision Pro suspended from a ceiling to prevent the need for your body to carry the weight, then it would be closer to being a legit substitute for going to the theater.

People like to obsess about gear because pointing out how Director A used hyper expensive camera Y is a convenient excuse for why they themselves aren't capturing Hollywood level footage.

Location/Production Design/Set Design/Set Decoration over everything else. Lighting is important but you can plan and frame around natural light. You'll blow through a lot of budget trying to fight the sun.

Rest in peace to Harris Savides. Zodiac is probably one of the most underrated movie of the 21st century. I’m also thinking of Brothers (also with Jake Gyllenhaal) and First Man, just to name a few others

...and this is how and why most of the movies on Netflix and Amazon are garbage. Any wannabe with a cheap camera is now a director, producer, DP...shooting nothing with nothing subject in a nothing location, hoping to sell their POS creation to streaming providers. Also forgot to mention, get the hell off the WOKE bandwagon mentality.

While I mostly agree with your points, Civil War was not exclusively shot on the Ronin. The A camera was a Venice.

the fact that you’d never know unless you read IMDb makes this irrelevant
@CHproduction94
@CHproduction94 10 күн бұрын
@@impatrickt Well it still makes it relevant, in terms of DI. There is much work being done behind the scenes in matching footage with different color sciences. Yes you can match any two cameras these days, but not everyone has the display prep pipeline that big studios have with the help of color scientists. It’s not like they are throwing footage in the timeline and matching it by eye.
@impatrickt

@@CHproduction94 the point of my video was not that you should shoot on a Ronin. It’s that you shouldn’t even think about the camera outside of whatever makes it easiest for you. Which is why I simply don’t care.
@crs2crs2
@crs2crs2 10 күн бұрын
Ronin for SOME scenes. Venice 2 was used a lot too. For static shots and slower scenes I think it's important to use a high quality sensor. For action scenes you can get away with a lot more. More interesting is that when watching the movie you tend to not pay so much attention since you're focused on the story. For me, the most distracting shots were the "beautiful close-ups" because they looked so different than the docu style cheaper camera ones. IMHO, the burning forest shots were absolutely distracting, I get the contrast they wanted to achieve, beauty in the chaos, etc, but they went a little overboard with the visuals. The sniper nest setup at the beginning on the top of the building is a perfect example of the maximum they should have gone for. Anyway, interesting movie, I highly recommend it for cinema tech fans, there is a lot to talk about.

Your setup looks very professional! Thanks for sharing the tips. It's easy to use computer to edit cooking or travel videos. Its easy and quick. Some people try to edit on mobile and loose quality. I personally use Rapid Reel Composer from aescripts, its a script for After Effects that helps to edit these videos very quickly within few minutes. All you have to bring all clips on After Effects, load the script, create markers by pressing * key where you want to cut your videos, and press Lazy or In-Out button. My video is ready!

This movie is one of my favorites. Like, in general. Everything about it is so expertly crafted, that even an ADHD-plagued people like myself gladly sat through it's long runtime, but it felt quick because EVERYTHING was so visual, so weighty. I brough this scene into one course in film school - forgot the intention behind why we were tasked with providing a specific clip - but this is so peculiarly done that it gave me chills and the WHOLE film is like that. It's not LYNCHIAN as far as style or content but has that sort of "unnerving, foreboding" tone a lot of Lynch's films do - where it's such a distinct cinematic voice all throughout.

Getting hold of a decent camera has been the easiest part of making a film for a long time. Having a good script, and paying for locations, cast and crew etc has certainly not got any easier.

When things are made available, people make things available... It's not even about technology at this point, it's when you make a clean spot you'd be amazed what shows up. I wrote the tech blaze, an audio, film, graphics, it's a trip. This thing is just getting started, sometime soon, when you see some pot-smoking flamin Hot Cheeto eating novice walk out with an Oscar, because that pot-smoking dweeb knew just enough about a camera and some software to get a thing done.

The c100 was a great camera a decade ago when this movie was made. The lens could have been a bit better but with proper lighting this is a great indie setup. Way better than most indies from a decade ago. The canon c series is still a great camera in 2024

When I had a couple of University classes on Cinematographic language, one of my end of year essay was on his first feature film, August 32nd on Earth. He was already a deal at the time in Quebec. My thesis on that essay was that the main dialogue of the movie was silence.. it was a really light on dialogue movie and it spoke to me. Just to say that even in that uneven, but interesting first outing, he had that attidude. Dialogue is necessary, but to him it's not the main storytelling medium. Hope it makes sense...
