How do I uniform scale a model to exact cm values? Isn't there a XYZ uniform 'lock' rather than each one being separate?
@DononovanKeith
@DononovanKeith 11 ай бұрын
Scale Project or doing the math is the best option. No easy way to lock axes and use an exact number for a single dimension otherwise. If you don't care about being exact you can hand scale with the Scale tool while watching the sizes change.

as long as you have an excellent proportion between scene elements, is real-world size important for the lighting? If I align a tree and mountain ratio, but the scene has 100m instead of 10000m, will it affect photo realism?
@DononovanKeith
@DononovanKeith Жыл бұрын
Not particularly. You might have to tweak values like Subsurface Scattering depth, or Camera Aperature. In general, if you're working on your own, you can work pretty fast and lose so long as you get the image you're trying to achieve. However, if you want to work in a larger team, or even to make your assets more useful to yourself across projects consistent real-world sizing makes it easier to import elements and have them Just Work™.

🤯 rotating the orbit ? ! you need every time the "alt" button ?? ... thatˋs realy bad 🤯 ... in other cad programms you need only to push-down the middle-scroll button and move the mouse 🤷🏼‍♂️ so you can rotate the orbit and you have the overview from al sites .... its easy in blender and easy in solidworks to navigate. i used c4d for many years and the navigation is sooooo 🤮🤮🤮 in c4d and nothing happend in this way since 15 years. is it possible to change it in the preferences in C4d ?

do you have tips for why lamps dont show light in the render, but do in the viewport? I pulled a lamp from assets but when rendering in redshift, the actual light doesnt come through. Thanks!

what amazes me about C4D to this day is that what every free software in this area masters out of the box: the possibility to scale numerical parallel... Everything that has to do with scaling in C4D has somehow stopped at the neanderthals

I have a question. How to fit UVW to real world scale of texture. For example I have texture of tiles and I know real dimension of the picture how can I fit it to my geometry in mm?
@DononovanKeith
@DononovanKeith Жыл бұрын
No super easy way to do that, at least from a UVs perspective because you can apply multiple materials w/ multiple textures, each with a different physical scale to the same object. That said, I'd start w/ some sort of Auto UVs so that everything is the correct relative size, then adjust your texture tiling settings until the material looks good on an element of known size. If you just want real-world sizing and don't care about perfect UVs, look into something called TriPlanar mapping; it was created to solve these sorts of real-world sizing issues.

Thank you so much for this Donovan ! I had one more question, once we've successfully managed to map and create a cube in Cinema4D. What is the best way to create visuals for the Cube - Something like what DJ Visuals Builder has in his Box Mapping toolkit !!
@DononovanKeith
@DononovanKeith Жыл бұрын
That's a bit more than I can (or am qualified) to cover in a KZfaq comment. From what I can tell DJ Visuals Builder is doing a lot of different motion graphics effects/animations, and just using the shape of a box as a jumping off point. The Maxon Training team are putting out good content on Motion Graphics and have live sessions w/ Q&A. Might be worth checking out: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/prV2jZWIyr7Xf4k.html

I'm doing this as an outgrowth of my teaching at Cal Arts, so creating these evenings/weekends. To get them up to the standards of the Maxon Training team would take about 10x longer than the time I have to record/produce these. Maxon Training team definitely sets the bar, I've included links to some of your team's videos linked in the description.

Wow! Just give a reasonable reason why they never had implemented a fucking simple acton for that, like holding shift as you hit enter when input the valeu? No doubt, that feature must be one of the most used one over the 3D applicaions, It's hard to believe through all of those years no one has requested a straighfoward solution for that.

I need your help, ive moved from C4D r19 to r25... usually when i have an object selected, i'd be able to scale an object using the move tool and slecting the little dots on the axis of the object. But for some reason, im not seeing those dots since migrating over to r25. I see it in your video, on the sphere, so im asuming it still exist, but i dont know how to toggle it in my program. anyone can help me with this please?
@DononovanKeith
@DononovanKeith 2 жыл бұрын
You might be in the wrong mode (Try model), or have a viewport filter on. Or, you've added a Scene Nodes primitive via the assets browser rather than a classic C4D primitive via the icon palettes (scene nodes Primitive's don't currently support the dots you're missing).

Geometry Only removes all viewport cruft. You'll need to manually build your viewport filter settings to maintain the HUD. And/Or generate the burn-in as a post-process in After Effects.
