Spent that whole summer as a KFC chicken cook between my jr. and sr. year of high school. Saw them live at Hershey, Pa day after they won DCI. Who knew I would march with them in 1980!

Macy Day Parade 1968, the Long Island sunrises led the parade just after winning the American Legion National Championship in New Orleans Louisiana. I was part of the dynamic duo symbol players, we were right behind the color guard and then in front of the entire drum and bugle Corps because we were featured in many competitions. MO Knox, gave us that nickname dynamic duo. There's a photograph of us in world history drum and bugle Corps, volume two, sunrises section. I was a member from 1964 through 1968. The Air Force drum quartet, I believe around 1960, instructor was John Dowling where he demonstrated back sticking, to the judges and the audience for the very first time. They took first place in drum quartet , John flowers, dick filkins, John Dowling, I can't remember the fourth drummer. Backstitching is still used today today. John Dowling and myself became good friends and we started the American Spirit senior alumni drum and bugle Corps in the Tampa Bay Florida area around 1992. May he rest in peace. I was listening to some of the music played by the Air Force drum and bugle Corps seems like they were influenced by the sunrises many of their numbers selected we played. The Air Force drum and bugle Corps featured as exhibition organization at many many, drum and bugle Corps competitions❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉

From the Marinette and Menominee “Homecoming” they held every year. The show would be held in Menominee in 1960. The Northernaires Drum and Bugle from Menominee, Michigan was the host and the show’s name was “Drums In The North”.

My father William C. Whitner Jr. was in a base corps between 1954 and 1958 at Elmendorf AB in Alaska. He played Baritone. I guess I got the bug from him I was in Spirit of Atlanta in 1984 and have been in the Alumni Corps the last 2 years.

My brother and I played with the Kenosha, WI Kingsmen for many years, The Best Of times ! The USAF Drum & Bugle Corps was at the Kingsmen show 3 ? times, The Concourse of Champions Memorial Day weekend and many great corps were also in the local parade. Royal Airs, Vanguard, Cavaliers, Racine Scouts, Kilts and many more. Plus, there was also a senior corps 3 or 4. The main tune was also played by the Royal Airs.

I was there that very day. The Casper troopers were outstanding❤❤🎉 former member of the Floyd Bennett golden eagles from Brooklyn New York 1960 1961, also former member of the Long Island sun rises 1964 through 1968 Unfortunately today we no longer have real drum and bugle corps. In my opinion DCI is the reason for the demise of what was one of the greatest youth activities in North America they've turned it into a marching band competition, superimposed on a three ring circus. Just my opinion😂😂😂🎉🎉😢❤❤

A couple of my friends and I join. Around 67-68. Remember practicing music at the church and then walk to drill rehearsal at the Armory. Then for a brief period competed in the winterguard.

Sorry I don’t have any idea where you could get the tv audio broadcast .. I did not realize they had two recordings and that the field DCI video was synced with another field recording.

Roy, thank you for all your work posting these videos. I noticed this video features the television broadcast audio. Although the quality is not as good as the DCI stereo album recordings, I've always thought the television audio provided a better representation of how the corps really sounded. Wondering if you might know where I could find the television broadcast audio of the 1980 Finals. Specifically, Spirit's "Let It Be Me." The videos I'm finding online all seem to feature the album recording synced to the video, because, well, stereo. Somehow some brass parts heard during the broadcast were omitted from the DCI album recording. Must have been the was the field was miked for the album. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for all these videos!

In 1969 - I was in the Menominee Northernaires and remember competing against the Mariners several times throughout Wisconsin that year. They were tremendous. They made the VFW Nationals finals in 69!! We were not as fortunate!! Great memories, I will never forget at 69!!

My childhood was amazing because my hometown, Deerfield, IL, hosted a Drum & Bugle Corps competition. The 4th of July parade and evening competition before the fireworks were heart-pounding. The Mariners were who I cheered for every year. So neat to see this clip!

The wall of sound from a Drum Corps playing G bugles was amazing. So much more energy than any highschool or college band. The stands were full of WWII vets. They really appreciated it when the colors were presented with so much respect by a group of teenagers.
