Very cool...I happened to see this video as a YT "sidebar" suggestion, and immediately "clicked" on it. I've seen this Geometry train in several editions of Virtual Railfan, but nowhere near as good as your close-up encounter!! When the train was stopped, I only wish you had ventured thru the brush to photograph the passenger car! Still...👍👍

I'm not into rail scanning, but the Uniden BCT15X also is excellent for monitoring civil and military aircraft.

NS34 used to be a Southern Railway GP35 before becoming a slug and eventually going on to become NS 34 and part of the Geometry Train program and having its engine removed so the locomotive(s) pulling it are what power its generator and electric traction motors as well as NS 33.

Dang, this brings back memories. I retired from Wabtec (GE) three years ago after almost 15 years as the Test Cell Engineer at the Grove City Diesel Engine plant. Listened to EVO's in "skip fire" for countless hours without even noticing. Now it sounds wonderful. Definitely miss the people and the fun of testing big diesel engines. Don't miss the stress.

What an awesome video, I sure do hope to ride behind 1309 next year because I have passed by the station this year and last and it was cool seeing it, but I still wish to see 1309 inperson at some point.
