I love the look of soft pastels, i gave them up because of the dust they create and the mess and they have to be put behind glass. Your drawing is wonderful.

What medium, if any, do you use to get your paint to flow so well on the canvas?

I use gamsol for the initial wash and then a small amount of linseed oil in the next layers.

I didn’t sense masculine I sensed tension or discomfort like an subconscious narrative from your back problems finding it’s way into your painting. In which case your pain is beautiful - but probably no consolation. :(

I love it! It turned out so lovely and has a great sense of emotion. As for it turning out “masculine” I think that is somewhat just because it can be challenging (even in a photograph) to make a female with a bare back look more feminine. There is something about having pants on but no top that just makes the brain want to see them as looking more masculine, especially without the flesh of the breast or hips behing shown. I think yours still reads as feminine but if they look less feminine that you’d wanted, I think it is just because of this extra challenge. Thank you so much for your lovely channel. You are really inspiring me to get back into oils.

7:52 one of my favourite paintings, spent A LOT of time staring at it at the national gallery up here🥰Sargent was a master painter with all the different fabrics he had to paint soo many paintings to get lost in

I paint loose watercolour and usually spend the hour in a state of constant anxiety, being dragged along by drying paint and feeling one step from disaster. My main thought is why do I punish myself like this daily and how much does therapy cost?
