I don't know where it originated from, but listen to the end of Helter Skelter by The Beatles. (when the song fades out the second time) I hear that a lot in Drum'n'Bass.

Damn! Something I haven't learned in the past 2 years in drum lessons taught in 12 minutes. Been practicing this technique for 30 minutes and have learned more than I have most of my drum career. Thanks man!

Are ya sure the notation is correct? I heard & saw lotsa LL on the snare.
@johngarvey803Ай бұрын
You are right, but from what I’m seeing the LLs are in the actual groove right before the fill/phrase he’s showing
@Crazy-Roland-vDrumsАй бұрын
@@johngarvey803 the notation embedded in the video is all wrong & out of synch in the pattern... if he's playing double LL on the snare, WHICH HE IS, then it should be notated, or the notation should be taken out entirely.
@johngarvey803Ай бұрын
I’m not saying you are wrong; I just didn’t see LLs within the actual phrase the video is meant to showcase (notated at 2:39). Where does he do this?
@Crazy-Roland-vDrumsАй бұрын
@@johngarvey803 not sure what you're referring to, i'm referring to STARTING @ 0:51 the pattern includes double LLs on the snare, which is what i posted right at the very top.
@johngarvey803Ай бұрын
There are no doubles on the snare, it’s a snare followed by a flam using both the snare and hats. It sounds like a double but technically the notation at 0:51 is correct

I only have a kick/snare/hat setup at home so when I move on to a full kit, I sparingly use the crash heck even sometimes never.

So good. Wow! Actually a lot simpler than I thought it'd be, especially if you get the feel.

Now try that on your floor tom 😮

What do you have on middle tom, is this a little gong ?

I completely understand the mechanics but one of the things I find hardest is identifying the unevenness, and then connecting that with the cause to fix it. I always assume that the second note will be the quieter, and work on making it louder to ‘even’ it up but there comes a point where I know I don’t sound the same as a professional but can’t quite figure out why…

This is the best explanation I've seen for the double stroke! And the initial exercise really helps to get the feeling. Thanks!

Bravely done 🫡. The little finger loomed large in Sanford E. Moeller’s description of the proper grip ..”..the (r) stick is held almost entirely with the little finger.. Plate No. 7.” Thank you for highlighting it’s utility in such a succinct description.
