The video quality is piss poor but I'm 58 and when a young music student at Sydney Conservatorium this tape, the tape had Williams playing other Barrios pieces at what seems to be the same recital/concert did the rounds of all of us guitar students. While guys like Bream really have you on the edge of your seat 'cause they fly so close to the wind you wonder if today they'll fall but Williams gives you absolute confidence and power. I freely admit to spending many an hour in front of the mirror getting my right hand as close to his as I could, and the difference in sound is really noticeable and well worth the extra effort. His left hand is his safety net. Failsafe !!

I think the Sueno en la Floresta and Julia Florida if not many of the maestros great works are all Top Tier compositions. Worthy to be held beside all the great masters of any instrument.

John Williams. The God of classical guitar. And everybody else can just suck it up, be envious and post nasty comments. John Williams - are you ever going to get better than this?

When you think about it, one the strikes of genius of Williams' career was introducing the wide public to the music of Barrios. Surely that contributed to making the classical guitar into a more popular instrument at the time.

Does anyone noticed that He play slurs in 3rd movement in different note than in other his recordings? Its awesome. I noticed it with carefully listening and my learning piece 😊 He make it descending, later ascending in newer recordings. For me is easier slur ascending in this piece

Even with the poor sound quality Williams' performance here is as good as it gets. I actually prefer it to his album recording. I like to revisit this video after hearing it played by another artist and Williams ' genius is unmatched by a large margin. He has the best technique with a pure understanding of the music to match. To those who say Williams' playing lacks 'feeling' I say: You should listen better. Most other performances of this piece sound pretty similar to each other. And then there is Williams' version which stands apart and above all of them.
