I have a pupil whose lips just don't sit parallel; when you look at his embouchure side on his top lip protrudes his bottom lip and almost a year on he is still struggling to find a clear sound. We've done heaps of embouchure work but can't seem to get rid of his airy sound. Any ideas?

I came across your videos yesterday, and I want to thank you. The high f# is becoming easier to pitch for. Now I just need to learn control so it doesn't sound so sharp😊

When I received an email from you the other day, I had wondered whether you had put together a new series. I didn't have time to view the video until today, 3 days later, and see that it's the 2017 series and also see that I had commented on it 4 years ago! Well here I am again, looking forward to trying out your recommendations yet again. I have done this several times ... get started, make some improvements then get distracted and put flute and books away. Will try to keep at it because your videos really do have good suggestions.

I've just stumbled upon this video and I can't thank you enough for sharing your post on types of flutes! I played the flute for 6 years when I was younger and was thinking about getting back into it as I realized that my emotional energy and perspective have never been quite the same. Oddly enough, I only played the C flute back then but now I want to play a flute with a different sound - one with a lower and richer sound. Perhaps a native flute. Being able to go to your site and have samples of variety of flutes already there was so rewarding that I think I now know which direction I'd like to go. Thank you for this! Be well!

glad to have a guide here. I'm a clarinetist (about 5 years), interested in learning the flute so I already know roughly how things are supposed to be figured out, but while the clarinet has enough pieces to it to be its own jigsaw puzzle, it's admittedly much clearer how they fit together than a flute. I thought I could just figure it out on my own and that fell through quickly. oh boy, it's going to be like the 5th grade all over again

So on a closed hole flute are some of the keys glued down ? Because on my closed hole flute some of the keys are already pressed down and I am not able to push them down

Most open hole flutes usually come with plugs right?

Can Galway's embouchure headjoint exercise on KZfaq be used with the headjoint attached to the flute? I believe he said that it can. Not sure. What I mean is can I use his method for the whole flute and not just the headjoint going forward? He covers almost half the hole with his lips. With this method I was able to make cleaner high notes and get the low notes as well.

Is there any difference while playing chromatic scale between open and closed hole flute
@theflutecoach3233 жыл бұрын
Nope! The notes sound exactly the same... as long as all the open holes are covered by your fingers!

Thank you so much. I want to buy a flute because I used to play it in Middle School and all the way to the 12 grade in High School. I was in concert ball and we had so much fun. I used to know how to read music and play so now I will have to get lessons. Thanks again. I know now since I will have to relearn the flute I need to get the closed hole flute. You are great to make this video.

Hello and thank you so much for your effort. I am a flute enthousiast and I have a question. Why is it that when I hear a good flute player from say...one meter, the sound is not so powerful or actually is quite a bit airy( I mean the sound itself is thin and the other half of the air column that escapes the blowhole is more present) and when I get farther from the player...the sound fills the room and sounds so meaty and creamy. When I play I always hear the powerful sound in real time but if I record myself...it doesn't sound so good and beautiful. Is my embouchure faulty? Thank you in advance!
