Hey does this machine operate with a knee pedal usually? I am new to sewing and inherited one. Still trying to figure it out! When i plug it in, it just starts going uncontrollably and I cant figure out how to manage it!
@myersdesignstudio
@myersdesignstudio 27 күн бұрын
My sister said to, “try turning the plug the other way. Older models can be plugged in backwards and it keeps the motor running instead of the light.”The model I used had a foot pedal. You can get it serviced as well so they can check if the electrical components are working as they should. I hope this helps.

Hi from NZ! I have recently acquired a wee General Electric Model A, cast iron body. Came in its box with feet, bobbins, grease and instructions and advertising brochure! I have rewired it myself, cleaned it with vinegar and oiled it. Omg, what a fabulous stitch she makes. Love my little green baby! Apparently it was rescued from oblivion in the dump. The same week I also got a Husqvarna (Viking) class 21 for my sister and a mint green Singer 319. All for the grand total of $50. So happy!😊

I'm just here to learn about the machine, as I've never had a sewing machine but now have one of these. I don't know the first thing about it, however I can tell you that at 3:30 that twisty thing holds a... table thing of sorts that slots onto the machine to increase the size of the working area. Sorry for the word soup explaining that, I don't know the name of the parts.

I have a "Modern Electric" (that is the model name?) sewing machine made by Precision from before 1954 that is definitely a Class 15 clone and is very similar to your Brother. Straight stitcher made in Japan. Needs to be threaded on the side though rather than the front. I have looked at hundreds of images of Japanese machines from that era but have not been able to find another one. I am in the process of sprucing it up and also rewiring it (insulation was crumbling). The previous owner did not really maintain the machine but also treated it very kindly and protected it from getting damaged. The paint is almost in perfect condition and after some fuzz removal and oiling the machine moves/runs super smoothly. The belt on the machine when I bought it was a round one and it was close to breaking. I replaced that with another round one but it looks to me that it needs a v-belt. The round one slips a little. I assume your Brother takes a V and the profile of your motor and machine pulley look like mine. Would you know what kind of V belt your Brother takes? Thanks!

Sure that is a nice idea for a future episode about the different foot pedals. Some pedals have buttons and some pedals have a lever style. All do operate the same way though. You press the pedal with your foot which operates the sewing machine. If you lightly press the pedal, then the sewing machine sews slowly. If you press the pedal hard with your foot, then the sewing machine will stitch as fast as it can.

If you dont have the cords its not a big deal , i recently got a 1931 General Electric kodel A and the cords were not original but rooted bad , its just a regular 2 prong plug end with no ground , i took an old electrical cord and cut the female end off and wired to my pedal and taadaaa working fine , the rear plug same thing , go to a thrift store and you will find all kinds of old extention cords that have no ground , most will fit into the rear part of the machine......dont make things seem like it cant be fixed , you dont always have to use original stuff , just need to improvise a little ....

I have this same machine - a green 319. I agree it's not a "starter" machine if you're new to vintage sewing machines - it is funky and clunky and there is a learning curve for using it. (The manual for it is like 50 pages long, if that gives a clue!) And in addition to an obscure 206X13 needle it also takes obscure L-bobbins. You can buy aftermarket L-bobbins but they don't work in the bobbin winder on this machine nor can you wind them on any other machine (you have to resort to a Sidewinder.) Even so, once you get past those hurdles, and get used to using all those dials, knobs, and levers, the machine really sews beautifully. It just takes a little getting used to - there are definitely easier models to introduce you to the joys of vintage sewing machines.

I bought one from a "Singer store" years ago and the bobbin case was either modified or changed, I never had to use the expensive, rare and hard to find needles. The placement of the bobbin case ( The Pfaff system - purchased by Singer ), and the heavy weight of the machine are issues. It is best used in a cabinet ( the user can then reach under and deal with the bobbin ).. The "real issue" is the hemp cleated timing belt.. Often oil will saturate the belt and cause it to stretch and then the timing is shot.
