The bob Ross of minibike engine work! Haha love it. Watching you reminds me of watching my grandfather teach me how to do things. It’s the small details in his words. Just like you! Great work

do you have low speed series for that kind of motor....
@doktorscottdiabolical20 күн бұрын
These converters engage around 1800 rpm. So to get a lower rpm output, you need reduction sprockets after the TAV. SMOG uses a 4-stage reduction. Axle speed is 17 rpm max. I have a video about it.

Thank you for the help bud. First time installing a torque converter and your video literally was a step by step video and it helped out a lot. lol I forgot to install belt too, good thing I watched until the end instead of installing engine and then trying to put belt on then.

Not with my kit. At least, not without a good bit of modification and lathe work. I have heard of a kit that does have that setup. But I've never seen it.

Might be a little more helpful ifin the motor was in a minibike 😮. It would show the real-world 🌎 uses for that application.

I dont understand why you even need a torque converter.My grandkids go cart i rebuilt does great with out one.A torque converter is just in the way it doesnt make it run any faster.
@doktorscottdiabolical5 ай бұрын
This type of torque converter functions as both clutch and transmission. Exactly the same as a CVT automatic transmission in a car. Fully loaded, SMOG weighs about 1,700 lbs. More than a Volkswagen. Could you drive a car without a clutch or an automatic transmission? BTW, SMOG also has a massive chain-reduction transmission: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q918bNCEt5qtcYU.html

Thanks for the help! What grease do you use and how do you add it to the gearbox?
@doktorscottdiabolical6 ай бұрын
'00' grease. It's like rear diff. lube, but without the sulfur so it won't damage the bronze gear. It's used in a lot of agricultural equipment. I had to pour it in VERY slowly through the vent hole while working the bubbles out with a piece of wire.

Whats the bolt length on the driver pulley? Videos ive seen have said to get a 2 inch one for the predator 212, but it seems to be too short
@doktorscottdiabolical8 ай бұрын
2" worked for me with the spacer and washer stack I used. But if 2" is too short for your motor, get a 2-1/2" and cut it down as needed to fit your application.
@dillonnauta86018 ай бұрын
@doktorscottdiabolical oh, I was actually just putting the pacman washer on backwards, so the flange wasn't inside the shaft and was spacing it too much. Embarrassing! But thanks for your response.

@dancascino7018 ай бұрын
Very well done. Interesting use of the technology once thought was only a Holiday production tool. It was hard to detect, but did the strike start from the upper branch and cascade down or was it just an illusion because of the speed of the triggering. I thought the strand of lights was just a single channel (regular strand) of led xmas lights. (i am old enough to actually have owned both color organs showed) Thankx
@doktorscottdiabolical8 ай бұрын
It's just an optical illusion. Single channel on the LOR controller. Conventional 120v AC led mini-lights from Walmart. The flickering was the LOR controller varying the intensity every 1/20th second. I could have used a downward "cascade fill" if I were using RGB pixels. That's what Disney uses in their Villan's Grove Trail. But IMHO, the effect is too slow. Mine looks more like actual lightning. My technique is also $300 cheaper and much easier than pixels.
@dancascino7018 ай бұрын
Thanks for the prompt response. If i could go frame by frame on you tube i would have seen it. but alas i had to bother you. also what was the timing on the bottom spots in the program. with that setup how precise can you trigger an event? and lastly (for now) do they use SMPTE time code or just min seconds. Thanks again Dan@@doktorscottdiabolical
@doktorscottdiabolical8 ай бұрын
I don't know the timing of the spotlights. I think about 3/10th sec per flash? For the lightning bolt, I used a mixture of 100% on/off and the "shimmer" effect in LOR S3. All LOR sequences are timed in fractional min/sec with either a fixed or adjustable timing grid based on the music you use.

Such a great video. Is the mounting plate necessary? I have a predator 212 with a 30 series off a 3203 yerf dog but it didnt come with the mounting plate

Not absolutely necessary. But it provides the driven pulley & jackshaft with the correct geometry in a convenient package.

If you have the VU wizard in your LOR software, try starting there. Then just work with your intensities using very short timing blocks to get the flicker right.
