Lol, my girlfriend introduced me to mắm tôm. It was not as a bad as everyone said it was. I was able to finish the whole meal with her. She seemed proud that I was more Viet than she thought.

I lived in VN between 2011 and 2013, a truly amazing time to be there with so much change going on and just the tonic I needed to get over my divorce, with the big cultural difference and amount of daily interactions with new people, compared to the West. Phuc map has inspired me to start learning tieng Viet again. I got ok back then, but not using it other than a few times in VN restaurants in Europe I have forgotten so much, writing tones, uncommon words etc. Dung roi, hoc tieng viet rat kho, nhung anh phai doc sach, xem phim ect 15 hoac 30 phuc moi ngay. I remember a VN saying nuoc chay, da mon (water runs stone carves) I think learning any language is about consistency, I guess. Thanks for the inspiration brother, hopefully my tieng viet is gone but not forgotten totally haha

That area is a foodie paradise! Didn’t have time to try Phở Cuốn Chinh Thắng but I’ve added on my list for my next trip to Hanoi 🇻🇳
