does the queen ultimately leave or does she die because there is no one left to take care of her? no one seems to answer that question. thanks.

Most of the time she will just die

@@LittleBitsHoneyBeesjoemay so if I wanted to keep the bees, I'd need some frames with the potential to make a new queen? My DIL probably has some. my son died last april (lost a 5year battle with cancer) , and he left behind a wife, 3 kids and 2 very active hives. 2 hours from me. She is struggling to figure out how to take care of them and not getting much help from the local bee club he belonged. to. we had beens here, but ours swarmed. if he were still here, he'd figure it out. he loved his bees and often caught swarms. the bees have a special place in my heart.

That would only take robbers a very short time to figure that out and enter the hive.

Thank you. I will be trying this. Also, just read on Wikipedia that it was first used as a pesticide in 1948 and fire ants were one of the insects it was used for.

I've been using a plastic queen excluder cut to fit (cause it floats) tote and as long as thin syrup hasn't been a problem, but I bet those noodles float better , I'm gonna try that, thanks

Joe.. Ever think about putting a queen excluder on the Front Entrance of the Lower Box to keep the Roaming Queens out of the bottom box?
@LittleBitsHoneyBeesjoemay
@LittleBitsHoneyBeesjoemay 25 күн бұрын
I have I usually put it on the bottom board so it gives them plenty of room to get in and out of not just the entrance

When feeding this time of the year are you using a 1 to 1 ratio? I'm glad you get the mean hive fixed. I hate that. I had one hive the last two years where I had to requeen them. They seem to just pop up.

Is a 5 gallon communal bucket feeder a good way to keep food coming in the front door?
@LittleBitsHoneyBeesjoemay
@LittleBitsHoneyBeesjoemay Ай бұрын
I don't know how many hives you have but if you don't have too many and you're just feeding 15 gallon bucket I would suggest using one gallon pails gives them more room to feed and not fight as bad

Vaseline softens after, also stops propolis sticking.

The orange cleaner is good for cleaning propolis off anything. I use it to clean hive tools and then I put the hive tool in the dishwasher to sanitize it. Works great.

Joe on the long term method would you want to cycle the frames through the freezer before loading them in the boxes to make sure any eggs or large killed?
@LittleBitsHoneyBeesjoemay
@LittleBitsHoneyBeesjoemay 2 ай бұрын
I don't do any of the above right now freezing is a good idea but I use BT like you spray organic in your garden on my frames and just stick them in any extra box out there and wax moths and small hive beetles won't bother it; Frames with honey in them still need to freeze
