I ended up buying two 3d printers. An fdm printer & a resin printer. The fdm is great for making brackets etc & the resin printer is good for making anything that has to be air tight or water tight. You can get amazing detail with the resin printer.

Thanks Alan. I did consider resin but for a noob, I think fdm is probably best. Most of the things I will need are just brackets and things. Plus the resin is more dangerous from what i've read. Not that I know much about 3d printing.

@@guernseysubmarine you just have to be careful of the resin fumes. I am more cautious of the fdm printer with it's hot end & potential fire risk. I sleep well when the resin printer is going.

I've got a 3d printer and could make small simple bits if needed. It's an old basic model so isn't great quality. I'll have a got if you want to draw it up.

Hi Question on the rods heating up. Iweld pretty irregular but like a heated rod I read some where I think it was on the box that you are not suppose to re heat but keep it heated.. It was some AFROX rod
@guernseysubmarine
@guernseysubmarine 8 күн бұрын
Hi. I only heat as many as I think I'm going to use. Its really to remove any moisture lurking in the flux coating. I've used old damp rods before. They are not good... These are new-ish rods and I keep them in a sealed container. But heating does help with starting the arc as well. Many thanks for your interest.

Use a flat bar instead of a rod, for the hatch closer. Then the flat bar is held between two flat pieces so the flat bar can move in two directions. Grind the end of the flat bar to a wedge to go under the land ring. Worked perfect on Gamma

On that hatch locking interface I would think needs to some small ramp that as you turn the handle, the more you turn it the tighter it gets. And I hope your using some type of seal around the door.

yes agreed. I just didnt really show that on the model as it will be ground\machined as i make it, so it fits properly. The hatch will be sealed with an O ring in the hatch ring. Thats being machined this week I hope. Thanks for your interest.

Was wondering if you dropped the pressure whether it would be too negative a pressure to open the hatch 😢
@guernseysubmarine

That’s why the valve is there, to release the pressure. Haven’t tried forcing the hatch open. Pressure drop inside is about quarter psi so probably would be too much to open. I will try it!

I'm a serious fan of privately owned submarines, especially the homemade variety. I've dreamt of building a submarine since I was about ten years old. I am now 68, so I live through the adventures of others. For that I thank you! I am a subscriber of Hank Pronk's KZfaq channel, where he has built his submarine here in British Columbia, Canada. Actually, he only lives a few hours away from my home. Though this means nothing to you I am sure! Your videos are great except... your audio channel output for your "voice track" is WAY TO LOW. I can barely hear what you're saying. Then to make things worse, your music track channel output is set to high which is drowning out any resemblance of a recognizable language. That may be a poor choice of words for a submarine video, I'm sorry about that. You have, to my knowledge 147 videos documenting the building of a potentially great private submarine. Too bad your viewers will struggle to hear you, this could potentially affect your viewership & in turn your video channel income! Now, in the chance that it is somehow my fault regarding the low audio track volume, I apologize in advance. I hope you have a great day and happy adventures!

6:34 I would rely on the measurement as you have done but checking it with a cheap _pipe center finder_ would be preferable to this method. Putting a level on the vertical while this is being done, would at least make it somewhat accurate.

At a push I would counter bore the hole out to take an o ring and make a plate to keep it in place Drill and tap 3 blind countersunk screws (as you said ir is only to stop it leaking. Like the tig welding as I have done very little of it

@@guernseysubmarine Bet there is just find the oring first and look for a fat profile one not the dive regulator type. Just tickle the counter bore so 70 % in in the c/bore and the plate will capture the 30%

Starting the threads with the drill press chuck looks like it works well enough for you here, but there is a handy tool called a "tap follower" which you can put into the chuck instead that might make the process faster and easier, since I'm assuming you'll be needing a lot of tapped holes
