Just things, nothing more. I swear this anime has a message so materialistic and focused on peoples upbringing and material conditions, its downright marxist in how it views materialism, imperialism, all the empires its interesting

I really don’t see how looking at the brutal side of human nature makes one a “Marxist”. There are plenty of capitalists with a similar outlook of life as Revy. What’s really strange is that people who tend to criticize upbringing and material conditions also typically roar about how people with low IQ are destined for failure while high IQs are destined to thrive… Not realizing this itself is a MATERIALISTIC premise: how the neurons and dendrites in your brain configured. Pure luck.

The dub version is different than the sub version with the same script. In the Japanese dub Revy sounds much more matter of fact like a true nihilist. The English dub Revy sounds like she deeply disturbed and putting on some sort of cover, like she don't really believe this worldview but she wants everyone else to believe she does. like an edgy cry for help. I don't think one is better than the other I just noticed that the Japanese va chooses to deliver her version of Revy and a much more cold person while the U>S version she's wayyyy more hot blooded and acts like a ticking time bomb.

I love this scene. Really gives the perspective of who the real revy is. Something she tries to hide. As someone who was abused by their father and pretty much throughout childhood by women, I get Revy’s philosophy. There was a time I didn’t believe in God either even growing up Christian. I still don’t believe in love at all at least for me. She is right though in some aspects we assign sentimental value to things but universally monetary value is agreed on by society. Things are worth money. Sentimental value means nothing in terms of a society but to the person it does. Still gives me chills hearing this speech. Beautifully done. How can you know what something looks like if you haven’t experienced it and I feel like that’s the important thing that Revy is teaching Rock other than the differences in value.

I love this speech because you can understand where Revy is coming from. Money and guns are the only things that keep her alive and safe. Rock, on the other hand, is speaking from a place of privilege.

That being said Rock does counter this by pointing out how Revy wallows in her own misery and doesn't care to understand him or his experiences.

When she said "it seemed like God and Love were always sold out when I went looking." That hit me, I did believe in a God, but it changed one day, realizing I could do much more than to beg to someone who's been dead this whole time

I hate tsundere (apologies if I misspelled that) characters like Revy or Asuka from Evangelion, because they are whiny, annoying, and treat the main character (Whether it be Rock or Shinji) like dirt. There, I said it.

This hits deep as hell...I swear...I mean yeah I was a ghetto rat and a christian, but money is the only way you can make it in this society. I realized the only way I can make it in this society is to act like I am a welcomed by this society by the way I dress and showcase myself. I am still a christian, but I understand how this society works. I make it work for me and my family. Otherwise, I would have always stayed a ghetto rat.

One cannot plunge into the Mud and Filth of Roananpur and expect to Come Out Clean on the other side. Rock did not become a monster, but he understood the sadistic and practical Logic that Governs the World of Crime. He learned how the game works and became very good at it, he stopped seeing the World in black and white to see the Gray. Rock may be perhaps one of the most Dangerous people in Roananpur, but it all seems like he wants to use what he's learned to help make a better place, not sacrificing his Soul like Revy, But saving her, using the Rules he learned from her and the others

there is a deeper truth, money will also buy meaningless shit, power is absolutely meaningless. NON REAL also there is no free will. and all pleasure you can buy with it may come to turn to crash on yourself. ( because, sex, drug, etc.. will destroy your body and brain, and everything that goes up, must come down ) So there is that, even the value you give to money is just a dream, and what you can get with it ? absolutely nothing, it's absolutely meaningless, having "power" makes you a slave and responsible for others people. people will be driven toward you for power, for them to catch some of it. the only way to escape the will of wanting power/pleasure/money is to kill yourself before death. ( yes ) if you kill yourself right now, to have something or not will have absolutely no effects on your mind. you'll not chase, but also you'll not not chase, you'll be in pure beingness, which is death. being alive or dead doesn't change anything, because life has the same value than death.

"life has the same value than death?" There's no such thing. And if there were, it cannot be the same as god where someone with a "heart of gold" could do something about everything, which there ISN'T, all we ever get is those Retarded Monkeys you call Liberals instead!

I think black lagoon is the first show, even the first piece of media I would say that might possibly give me a bit of trauma. A lot of the characters are scary and really f**ked in the head. Revy’s yes possibly one of the most messed up backstory I’ve seen. And the themes and thoughts the characters have is what made this show really f**ked. The idea of how there are people in this world are begging for help begging to be saved in this cruel and unfair world, to the point that it’s pretty much too late to turn back. and how killing someone can really f**k your brain up and give you severe trauma and to the point that you might forget why are you even doing something. Kinda like how Roberta's was acting in Roberta’s trail of blood. The fact that these things can happen in the real world makes it very scary and dark. In fact the themes and we go from way how it was written made me question what was going on in the writer’s mind when making the story. Now you may be like “then why did you continue to watch it if you weren’t enjoying it “, well, it’s just so deep and messed up. It’s like seeing two trains about to hit each other. It’s something you don’t wanna see but that’s part of you that really really does want to see it. Now that’s not to say the show is completely depressing. If you can mostly turn your brain off you can have a lot of fun watching it. Mostly just the first season. No, let me make one thing absolutely clear. Despite what I said this doesn’t mean I’m gonna go crazy. I have no interest in committing crimes so please stop looking at me with worry eyes, thank you. It’s just a story with realistic themes.
